Small veg cab, how many watts of cfl?

Hey guys I just built my veg cab for my stealth micro grow set up and it's 16"W 18"L 21"H. I plan on vegging 2 plants in there and I am wondering how many cfl watts I would need...right now I have 2x26watt 6500K with individual reflectors and the entire inside of the cab is covered with Mylar. Would these 2 bulbs be enough to veg 2 plants to about 10-12" tall? Thanks

To start your seedlings, yes. To Veg them to 12" yes... anything is possible with a weed. To grow it properly in my opinion, no. That is a very small area you're vegging in, but the more light the better. Some say you need 100 watts of CFL's per plant. Others say you need 60 per sq/ft. I myself would veg with at least 4 6500k and 2 2700k. If you only use 6500k you will have a very small distance between the nodes. The 6500k promote horizontal growth. the 2700k promote vertical growth. It will Grow no matter what though. There was a thread on here, where someone grew a plant that yielded 10 grams on a single 67w CFL

Hi!

Wattage is irrelevant for what you are asking, since efficiency at coverting electricity to light varies between different light sources.
Even the ones that work on the same basic principle, like cfl bulbs in your case.

What you should be looking at is luminous flux... And for vegetative growth you can get away with as little as 1500lm per square foot. Of course more is better.

One 26W clf will on avarage produce around 1500lm, so you have a min. of 3000lm in there, and I would say thats just fine. Cheers!
