Smart pot drainage

Is it necessary or better to add rocks to the bottom of fabric pot for drainage ?

It's Not necessary,it drains everywhere in the pot,I'm using geopots and have never had a drainage issue

if anything smart pots have to much drainage lol that makes them good though because its very hard to overwater and the roots oxygenate quicker. When I use fabric pots I take my plants to the bathtub to water because it will runoff very quickly and you need to pour a good amount of water to fully soak the soil

I use smartpots outdoors and keep them elevated about 4in. Off the ground. Rocks would not do any good at all. I harvested recently and today I pulled the root systems out of the Smartpot and out of some plastic pots with rocks in the bottom I also used. The root structures were very different. The smartpots were a mass of fine, dense roots, with lots of "feeders" whereas the plastic pots roots were fatter with an irregular structure, they also looked like a little slime was trying to form on some of the rocks. Ill never use any plastic or clay pot again.

Im just starting to do comparisons with about 3/4 inch or perlite on the bottom, and so far I like the perlite.
