Hey guys and gals,

Ive heard so many good things about "Smart Pots", I would like to give them a go with my current setup on the next transplant.

Why could I not use the black fabric stuff I have put down in my flowerbeds to keep weeds out? Although, Ill be trying to keep weeds in, HAHA.

Seems like a couple of layers of that stuff, properly bonded, would be very similar. It would defiantly be breathable, like the smart pots.

Hell, simply drilling lots of holes in a cheap pot, and lining it with that would work I think.

What do you think????

Thanks for any input.

I made a bunch of my own. I found a landscape fabric that looks exactly like the smart pot fabric. It is sold by the sq foot, and generally its the most expensive landscape fabric you can buy. You wont find it at Home Depot, etc. Places that have landscaping gravel carry it. While you are at the gravel yard... pick up a bucket of white quartz chip. Its like Mylar for the garden... or a nice reflective topping in you pots.

I happen to have a serger... threaded with wooly nylon thread....this helps. Althugh conceivably you could sew the stuff.
