-5x5 Dry room tent
-9 weeks flowering(July 1 to Sept 4th)
-Day 5 of drying
-Strain: Strawberry cough
-Temps 64-69F
-Humidity 51-56
-Inline fan 150cfm sending air outside (Pulls string right through)SUNCOURT Inductor 6-in Dia Galvanized Steel Axial Duct Fan in the Duct Fans department at Lowes.com
-Typical house fan blowing against inside wall of 5x5
-Whole plant hung from base

Plant never really smelled great or strong. After 5 days drying, the tent smells a little hayish and really have to dig my nose in the bud to get any aroma. Ive checked for mold and rot religiously and trimmed a few buds just to see a little closer.

The other plant im letting grow a few more weeks to see the difference and it seemed a little behind, and appears to be losing some smell if anything. Pretty sure it hermied but that shouldnt affect the aroma? Any thoughts?

It's great you still have some in there, let it grow way past the time you think it should be harvested, then compare. It still has plenty of swelling and ripening to do. Some people disagree, but I firmly believe wet trimming results in a lot of terpene loss. So if you don't already dry trim, try it with the branch you have left in there.

Not sure about maturity. The trichromes seem to have an Amber glow... but hard to tell.

Your dry is too short and lots of buds get smelly again after cure. Cure it and see.

Yeah I'm going to let this one run a while longer. I haven't trimmed anything on the one hanging and its 5 1/2 days in. Still needs a lot longer to dry before jars. Maybe I'll trim a few of the branches on the one drying now and compare the difference.

Fair enough. Still has atleast 5 more days of drying if not more. Buds still pretty wet. I have to post some scoped pics of trichs.

Theres so many people drying at 50-60 though, I understand losing some life but didn't expect hay.

were not ready- needed another 4 weeks in my view maybe more
Have trainwreck outside 5 weeks into flower that smells more than these did at 9... or even 10weeks now for the one still going.
If I wait another 4 weeks feel like the trichs will all be amber or popped. It should smell pretty dank at 10 weeks.. no?

Cut a month or more early hence no smell and effects.
Haven't smoked it but should be able to try soon. Smells on my fingers but the room is hay. Have the other one, gonna run it pretty far but don't want to for no reason.

The trainwreck outside smells more at 5 weeks than these at 9...10, but the strawberry cough outside also aren't alarming yet. Kinda subtle.

You need to let the plants finish completely to get "That Smell". You cut too soon.

Let it go longer if you want that smell.

Second plants gonna run longer and test everyone's theory.
I mean.. I know it smells like something but to me it just smells weak. Been told you can smell it outside even through this ac infinity filter (apparently garbage) but its not what I expected. The wind blows and I can smell the trainwreck(5 weeks flower) outback more than these.

Thanks for all the advice. Should be ready for cure in a few days. Prob will make hash and hope for the best. ‍♂

It might also just be genetics. Not every seed produces a winner. In my experience not even every pack of seeds produces a winner. Some times the genetics just don’t like how you try to grow them too, your environment will effect the phenotype of the plants.

Trichs from last cut. The second plant is about at this point.

1. Genetics?
2. Bad grow?
3. Bad dry?
4. I have 2 plants cut from same mother outside.

Microbes = smell

Could just be bad luck on the generic side of things too.

Some phenotypes just don’t smell that much

Personally I don't know of a auto that'll finish in 9 weeks or a photo that will finish in under 12 weeks. You want to be looking at the trichomes on the bud itself or calyx. The sugar leaf trichomes will ripen early and be misleading.
Look into getting a ink bird for humidity control. I dry in a 3x3 tent inline fan on 1 with a 4 in desk fan blowing away and down from the weed on low 60% humidity around 68° 10 or 11 day dry, you want at least 7 adjust environment to achieve. Trim them up and put the bud in air tight jars with hygrometers as long as the humidity dosen't go above 65% there's no need to burp. Mine will hover around 62% for a couple weeks time will vary. Once the humidity drops below 58% I'll throw a humidity pack in there. Still no need to burp unless the humidity goes over 65%. But it won't hurt anything if you take a whiff from time to time. After a 30 day cure it'll start smelling more like weed. 90 day cure is even better. Most of the cannabis cup winners have a 6 month cure.

If you do go over 65% just pour the jar out inspect for mold and rejar. If its above 70% let the bud sit for about 15 or 20 minutes before placing back into the jar.

It's ready when the buds themselves feel dry and the leaves left will fall off with a brush of the hand. The stem may or may not snap but not break. However if it does snap but doesn't break it's ready.

If you're drying that above your light that won't work has to be dark.
