Smells weird

My plant had a good smell to it right before harvest. I cut it down and let it dry for 3 days then put it in mason jars. It has been there for two days now and it smells very leafy and nothing like what I'm used to. Is this part of the curing process and if so when will that distinct smell come?

You jarred it wet. Left It Sealed For To Long .. You Ruined it.. Best Thing You Can Do Is Take It Out And Let It Finish Drying... it probably won't ever smell good again because you locked in the clorophyll when you jarred it to early.

I let it dry until the outside was crisp and dry feeling and the stems still bent withought quite breaking. And I opened the jar twice yesterday and once so far today. Both days taking the buds out and moving them around. Everything I've read said that's the way to do it. The buds don't feel wet at all. If anything they feel a little dry to me.

I think you did it wrong.

The inside is still wet..you should throw them in a brown bag. You need to let it dry out more.. if it burns decently in a joint it's OK to jar.

Well this is depressing. I spent all this time doing research getting a close to perfect grow environment checking for the perfect harvest time drying and curing the way way I've read about so many times just to be told that my girl is ruined. Wtf.

So I just sampled some of the smallest buds. They were still a little sticky when broke up. The potency still seems good. There on a glass table in a dark room. Is that ok or should I go get a paper bag? Is there any chance the smell will get better?

I have the same problem, did exactly what you did. I think my problem came from harvesting early, which i know I harvested atleast a week or two to early, so maybe you did to? I followed everything I read, just like you did, about dry on the outside and blahblah and burped and all that. It's been 3 weeks since my harvest and it still smells the same(no skunkyness), a little less harsh of smell after being cured for those couple weeks though.

I asked a true professional grower I know about the smell problem, he said I'll never get the smell back. And thats the concensus online searching as well, it's gone. The buds are still really potent though, it's just that the smell isn't there.

Just jar and burp, if buds are damp and you have them on table just rotate them every now and then so they dont get a wet spot from sittin.

I tell people time and time a gain it,s better to overdry than get mold. After you cure a couple harvest you will learn a lot unfortunately you will make some mistakes along the way. Be persistent and observant it will work out. Good luck to you.
I would have to concur with mr sunshine. The bag seems like a safe way to dry what you have. Keep checking for mold.

You cant dry it to fast , This sounds like what you did I used to get the same issue, hay smelling harsh burning dope . Now I just leave the plant alone for the first two days after cutting them down and the fan leafs protect the buds from drying to quick, You need to make sure the room isnt to high or low on the rh and constantly have airflow around the plants ( not directly on them). Usually if it takes any less then 5-7 days your drying them to fast and not giving the plant time to get rid of excess chlorophyl . It is more of the pain in the ass to trim it dry but it makes the weed taste and smell like it should, not like the first hay cutting of late july .
