Smoke detectors in a grow tent

Anyone? A friend said to me he would never grow with a HID, esp HPS due to the risk of fire.

I suppose there's a possibility, but Ive never heard of it happening. I've heard tales of drivers on LEDs catching fire, but again, never seen nor heard of it. I would think if this was a possibility manufacturers who sell grow tent kits would include a smoke detector in the kit.
I suppose it can't hurt, so I'll install a First Alert in mine just to be on the safe side.

I have one in my tent, and an auto fire extinguisher. Cheap insurance in my opinion. Plus if your insurance company finds you at fault (overload, improper wiring, illegal grow) they probably won’t cover it.

I have grew with hids for decades from the shitty noisy magnetic ballasts that get red hot to the better digital ballasted ones that dont get so hot and run alot quieter than the old ones too there not so bad ive never burnt anywhere down with em

My bro in law had a vivosun bulb melt and almost cause a fire at his place. Don't know how it happened but the pic he showed me of the melted bulb was pretty scary. If your running hid I wouldn't go with the cheapest , probably go for a high end unit and perhaps a dual ended hps
