Smokey's swing at scrog- 4 way sour dosidos by dank genetics

So it's that time of year again for my room folks. I've never really contributed one of my grows in full with the board and I thinks it's about time I added something of value to the forum.

This is my newest rdwc setup. It's a 4 site in 12 gallon totes. Total water volume of about 45-50 gallons.

I will be using Greanleaf MegaCrop to completion with no additives outside of GH calmag if needed.

I'm hoping to stick with a single 1k hps through flower on a 5x5 screen. If this proves inadequate I'm eyeing a couple 315 cmh and will shove my 600 hps in the middle somewhere. So don't be surprised if mid grow the lighting changes.

Obviously there isn't much to show at the moment as I'm just getting to cleaning out the room and setting up on Sunday. I will add update pictures once a week sometime around noon est Sundays.

Feel free to chime in anywhere if you see something I'm forgetting or have any general questions about my setup in particular.

Well I think that's about it for the kickoff post. I'll go back and update this post on Sunday March 4th with pics of the room etc. Beans will get popped Sunday afternoon and post 2 will detail my germination process.

Ok so in typical smokey fashion stuff has come up today. The wife has set me up with things to do and cut my time down to an hour this morning.



I got the room emptied out and the new totes set down. I always forget how bad it gets after a couple runs. I'll get into the ceiling and clean all that up and hang just the 600 to kick off the auto project and wait for the sour dosidos lasses.


Germination will still begin later on tonight. These little things have been calling my name for a few weeks now.



I'm taking tomorrow off so I'll get the new shelf hung and the setup prepped and filled for the first in room leak test.

I still haven't made the decision about whether I'm going to up my air pump to commercial grade and I've got a few things left like boiling out my air stones and rinsing some more hydroton. So lots to do and only a few hours to do it.

I'll check back in tonight with my germination process. But as you can expect it's just the paper towel method. So nothing much to see until tomorrow or Tuesday when they crack and get stuck in the cubes.

What's under the plastic on the walls?

Have you considered painting your drywall white if it's possible?

Less humidity buildup between the plastic and wall and easier to wash a painted wall imo.

It's just finished painted drywall. I hadn't considered the condensation thing if I gotta be honest. It's pretty well insulated as all three are exterior walls. I dunno. I put the panda film up mid grow last run when I yanked the tent out of room for height restrictions. My thought was I would just re wrap the walls between runs. I won't do that this time but I will peak back there to check for mold spots. Thank for the heads up I don't know if I have it in me to go get a semi gloss white wipable bathroom paint and hit all that tomorrow morning.

So as I mentioned down they go.

Nothing crazy here. I get a bucket and fill it up with well water. Which today is sitting at 130ppm.

Next I added some megarcrop until I got 280 ppm. It was probably 3ish maybe 4 grams. Got that pH'd downed it to I think around 6.2. could be a little higher I need to calibrate my cheapo meter in the morning. I'll use this water for the next few days to keep everything wet.

Time to soak some rockwool cubes.

While that's doing it's thing I snagged a pint or two to put in a squirt bottle for the paper towel.

Speaking of paper towel here it is.


Get that thing wet. Not dripping all over but wet. Stick 4 seeds on it.

Fold it in half stick it in a sandwich bag with a little puff of air and stick it somewhere dark and warm. I use my router because it's flat and warm. Cable boxes and fridge tops work fine too.


I'll check on em tomorrow morning and then in the afternoon. They will likely be cracked open and ready to drop into the cubes by then.

Well I'll be damned but I think I just about got everything mocked up for the 48 hour leak in. I get the feeling I'll need to pull it all back apart one last time and hammer a couple pipes in or use some cement. We will see


I got everything topped up and all the pumps running and stones bubbling. It looks alright. I could use a bigger feed pump and rigid feed lines but that'll come next run. I'll get a sheet of panda film cut to drop over those tubes to block some light.

I checked on the seeds around 3 and they were right where I figured they would be. Just starting to peak at the tips and along the seam. I'll update with photos of those late tonight or tomorrow afternoon when they get dropped into cubes. Till then

So just as I thought. 3 are ready to drop into cubes one hasn't shown just yet. I should've done it this morning but work was calling so off I go.


The leak in is going fine. I'll empty it and put some cement on the sweeping elbows. They don't have quite as large a mating surface as standard elbows so they are leaking a few drops probably a quart a day which is far too much to be accepted.



So I'll handle that tonight and get those seeds into cubes asap. Til then

Oh for the coco tester? I'll stick with that for now. Pending what the mother in law does this week those will likely end up in her new setup in a week or 2. It's drain to waste and the 5 gallons only lasts like 3 or 4 days so I'm not too worried about shit growth in that bucket and when I set her up the bucket will be out of the tent. Im giving her my 4*4 tent andaa 600 from apollo a buddy gave me.
As far as the rdwc kit I dunno. The lids are sort of see through. I'll get some light leak but I don't know if it'll be bad enough to warrant me getting panda film cut to cover it. Especially once canopy is filled in. We will see how lazy/ how much time wife will let me have out there. I did buy some white plasti dip buy as you can imagine it doesn't prevent light leak only helps reflect some. So maybe a couple coats of black paint then the layer of white. Or just cut a few pieces of black white poly

Panda would work but paint is the best .
As its easier to apply if you got somewhere you can paint.


As to the leakage

If its just a SLOW SEEPER it can plug itself with salts in about a week
If its a dripper it might take longer or you might want to silicone it in

Yeah. Im not really wanting to bank on salts so I'll do it right. I'd rather not have to dismantle 3 weeks into flower because I got drunk and bumped a pipe and now it's pissing on my floor. And as far as the lids I'll need to decide today as the sour dosidos goes in this week or weekend.

Always a good choice ha ha . Tons of people let there systems salt up it happens Best if not


All depends on if you drilled your hole in the exact same spots and have your setup totally level but that water pressure adds up fast

Just remember on the totes with the yellow lids i think it would be easiest to cover the flat part with panda and paint the brim of the lid black .
But i would put too much worry in it if your swapping every week

Nah I'm not. The totes will be my next full run Im just filling them this week. The coco testers eill likely be gone this week. I just don't know that I'm all that worried about it. My last setup was just white buckets. They did fine. We will see

In my journal i got the one growing in a coffemate container just to see what i can do in a small container with no light proofing

So far just white roots but im using hydroguard

I've never bothered with hydrogen peroxide or any additive for roots. My roots were never stark white but never any slime either. I also used to use floralicious plus and now megacrop so it's not like I have a clear solution either. that's kinda what I pinned the not whiteness on. I think as long as the water stays really well aerated and cool there isn't much to worry about. Only once in my years of dwc has root slime been an issue. And that was in a single bucket grow in a room with 90+ ambient temperature and carpet flooring. Having everything sitting on concrete has really made a difference for me. It's been about 2 years in this house with this room and not a hint of issue yet. I did have to buy a 14k btu standalone air conditioner and vent the hot side out. so I get smell leak that way. I'll need to get a 6 inch y duct and start pushing air through my filter. Which I need a new filter any way so it'll all get tweaked a bit. The room is never done always being modified. I just spoke with a chinese manufacturer and they are sending me 4 sample 315 cmh units and 2 de 630 units for 70$ each. So once I get lamps together I may hang 4 315 and a 600 in center and see what I can produce. All sort of pipe dreams for now until that box shows up 3 months from now off the slow boat from china

So no really I've been chasing non existent leaks. Ima just fill it up and let it run on 2 pumps and see what the hell happens ...

I'm also kind of tipsy and about to check pH on a bucket and some cubes and see what the hell my seeds are doing.

Well shit. 3 came one didn't all three got a bit long. Should have sewn at 6 am. But all the same poked 3 holes longer sewn and gently covered with a 23 watt warmer at 6500k.

One new seed dropped onto the paper towel

and if we end up with five one goes to the in law.
If we end up with four perfect.
If only 3 take I may just pop the last two or no more. I'll decide later.

I built the airpump shelf directly in front of the air conditioner fan for a reason.
