Smoking ban in holland.

Thats a really good point. I think it would get annoying if you had a bunch of stoned tourists running around all the time, but i feel like if you go there and just uphold the etiquitte, no big deal. I've always said Weed brings people together, even across countries. now we just have to respect that

even if you goto the dam, the smoking ban will be also in the hotels/hostels ect, they will be know where to smoke.
cos you cannot smoke ganja out in public, thats why they opened the coffee shops, to keep it one place, so they can manage it.
now everyone will be going to the dam and not be able to smoke in the coffee shops,hostels/streets.
so if your a visiter and dont know anyone with there own home.
well id say they was no point in going?. if they is know were to smoke.
i knew somone would put an end to the openess of amsterdam.
and make it seedy again as aposed to safe and open.

-get your point, but just beeing there and seeing how it is now, I just find that unlikely to happen. Even with a smoking-ban, there`s workarounds. I doubt that 800 + coffeshops will shut down business just like that. If they were to prohibit the drug itself, I think it would be another story..

there is no way the Dutch would put up with it. Fortunately the Dutch govt does not dbelieve in the nanny state, and fully realise that smoking of any kind is a social and health issue, and not an excuse to criminalise a section of society that would be, and are, hard working tax payers.

Unlike the British and American Govts, the Dutch actually treat people as adults and grant them a certain amount of automony as a result- unlike us they do not wish to be led by the nose and fed bullshit 24/7.

You also have to remember that this is a BBC report, and as such is more likely to tow the govt line than - lets face it , haven't you heard the same shit before? It's the same every year.

I remember a Dutch lad who visited us in England a good few years ago, mentioning the poll tax etc. He said that the Dutch would not have allowed it, and back then I never really took on board what he meant. After reading your post I now understand what he meant.

The big picture here is that if Holland does wind up banning it, its going to make it near impossible in any other country to legalize it. "SEE!!! Holland finally found pot to be the worst thing on the planet." is the BS we will be hearing.
