Hello all,

As promised, the lights are now reconfigured and will stay this way from now on. I do have to get one or two more Kessil 350s, but I think I am just going to get one for now and finish this run with what I have got.

Here are the pictures, which I feel now with this configuration will give the best overall footprint for 9 plants....9 plants is what I am planning on flowering once I make my selections.

As always with this grow, suggestions are welcome for LED arrangements, etc.

You are ready to rock, my friend. I'm going to need a chair for this one.

I'm eager to see organic/LED potential, as I must live vicariously through RIU (and your thread, sorry:-o)!

Good luck, though I don't think you need it!

Just a quick photo to show you why I love to angle my lights. See on the left , no fighting all that nasty leafy matter to get to the bud sites :).

Thanks for joining the ride!

Hehe...I don't think this thread will convert anybody as it is my first run with LED-only, but hopefully some will garner some decent organic-growing knowledge from it.

It would be nice to have a nice run with my current setup, but until I have everything dialed in with LEDs(through experience), I don't think anybody is going to be converted from what they see here.

I will, however, take this opportunity to show off some of my past work utilizing the Soil Food Web with living organic methods, if not for anything else but to make this thread interesting as there has not been a single bud shot yet. All the plants below were of recent grows that I documented for the sole benefit of RIU readership. If you want to see more, just search for past threads I started and you'll be able to see more pics. Enjoy!

Sprouted: 12/1/12
Vegetative Begin: 12/15/12
Vegetative Week 4-5
Day 51 from seed

Hello all! Here is an official update with information, mainly for me to have here to refer to for the 12/12flip which will happen soon. For now, a recap.

Plants: 1 Medicine Man. 1 Pakistan Ryder. 1 Alquimista. 1 Critical Sensi Star. 3 Vanilla Kush. All female. I also have 8 Black Widows, but they are not sexed yet.
Notes:

All plants have been transplanted, topped, and pruned extensively. They are all set in LST screens. Organic blend concentrate used. All led lgihting.

Will be installing another Kessil350 this week along with Exhale Bags.

No pictures today, as lights are now on an 18/6 schedule and didnt have time to take pictures before lights out.

Selection: Preliminarily speaking, I will most likely be selecting the Medicine Man, one Vanilla Kush, and the Critical Sensi star for mothers. All the rest are duds.

Duds or dudes Snafu?
Duds. Not dudes.

Duds meaning that I do not believe they will be worth keeping post-flower. This is a medical grow selection process to find a nice cloning mother from the lot. Dud, meaning that I do not believe that they will produce the spark/explosion in flowering that I look for in quality mothers of vigor.

Reason: wanted to delete thumbnails, dont know how. stupid RIU.
To do this you have to open the attachments manager window again and 'X' out each pic you don't want in a specific post. When you open the attachments manager, the pics for that post should be along the bottom of the window. You want to 'delete' them down there. When you put the mouse over each pic it pops up the option to delete. It's a little 'x' button. Just so you know for next time.

I'm enjoying watching the grow btw. :)

Upon looking at this, it has me intrigued.

Do you have a center footprint light for the overall top of the canopy as well, or is it all angling in?

P.S. Threw in one more Kessil and an Exhale Bag last night.

^^^ What it doesn't show is a 2012 Vipar A300 that I use as my main panel and that is kept about 20 inches above the canopy. That panel is angled ~10 to 15 degrees toward the rear of the tent so the plants in the back get some Vipar lovin' and not my tent door so much. And of course I stuck a chafing dish on it to constrict and reflect the panel's light. Ghetto, but I like the effect. You can see how the area above your grow darkens, and that works for me :).

Snafu, pondering getting an LED to supplement a dark corner in my tent. What do you think I should get, a UFO or a kessil 350?

How's the grow doing, btw? Lets see it! :D

Hey Bobo,

Sorry for the lack of updates...work has been a killer lately, but also I completely redesigned my room surrounding the tent, making a nice spot for picture taking, etc. So, I am primed for a good update when I get my next day off. It will also most likely be the beginning of flowering too. So far, growth is steady and I have begun SCRoGing, as the plants have reached the cages now.

Good question! It is determined on a lot of factors...I have not shared a lot on my experience so far with the Kessils, so I guess this is a good opportunity to do so.

The Kessils are really awesome lights, very cool technology. However, they come with a crazy upfront cost. I am getting them for 230-290, which is a great price on Kessil350s, but it is still a lot of money.

Unfortunately, I have a job that grinds me out mentally and physically, but it also pays well which allows me to have fun with my medical hobby of growing (My setup is tiny and for personal ingestion only). In other words, I don't much care about spending whatever I want on what I enjoy doing in my spare time.

The Kessil 350s are easily the best lights pound for pound right now. They are dynamic and powerful. They provide a great spectrum for both vegetation and flowering (Magenta)...so the box says. However, you need 4-6 of them in a 4x4, IME. Mathematically based over 2 years, the savings beat out all other comparable lighting for me. My power consumption increased next to nothing with 4 of these running now.

Their is a small learning curve with them, and I do not recommend one Kessil only unless it is used for supplemental lighting. So, in your case, it is perfect. The learning curve for me was distance.

UFOs also work great...I have two, and am currently using one right next to a Kessil. And they are much, much cheaper. Choice is yours. It comes down to budget. However, if money is not an option I would prefer to have 100% all Kessil 350 Magentas, as the light is dynamic/fluid(can move it anywhere...versatile), powerful with low power draw(cant look directly at it, burns eyes), and is cool to the touch blowing cool air after 18 hours of being on everyday.

But, of course, this is all based off of NEVER EVER HAVING had flowered with them. So, EVERYTHING I said above is based on the vegetative stage only.

I'll do an update soon and you'll see what I mean. also been messing around with the Kessil H350 Purple Spectrum lately...threw some Widows under it. Should be an interesting comparison with the other widows under the Magenta.

And again, another disclaimer...I have very little working experience with the Kessils...this log here is my first stab at them.

looking really good man, glad i read this thread because every time i open my soil tub it has this white "hairy" mold/fungus on the top. i usually dont worry about it and just mix it in but i always wondered if it was a bad or good thing. Seems like its a good thing :)

i just use happy frog and espoma garden tone, nothing special but seems to be working well and not brining any bugs in.

Im hoping to have enough compost by the 2014 outdoor season to do a large scale outdoor grow but for now i just cant afford the soil. I bought a couple pigs for meat a month or so ago and once they go to slaughter ill use all thier shit/hay in a compost pile with some other stuff....what do you say to that? not sure if its really a great base for a nice compost or if pig shit should be stayed away from. they are mostly grain fed but do get some table scraps, not alot of meat but sometimes that inevetible when giving shit like spagetthi sauce with hamburg in it.

andyways stoned and babbleing. subbed in

Good to have you!

I wouldn't use pig shit. Anything that eats meat is a huge no-no when it comes to using their guano....
