snake killer

Today I did something that I haven't done in a long time ...... I killed a snake that was after my blue birds.
The wife and I created a place that allowed birds to thrive.....we feed them....we house them and we know that in doing that it will bring predators that eat birds.I've dealt with this for years and have never had to kill anything Today I came into the driveway and saw a king snake climbing a post that had a Bird house in which had several family's of blue birds in them......I tried unsuccessfully to capture the snake so I could move it away from the bird House to a place on the property that would allow me to release it into the wild after several attempts to do that...I soon realized that it was a loosing battle........the snake was doing what came natural......I haven't killed an animal in years.....I feel terrible...........I know it was just a snake but it was a living animal and because of me it is no longer!

not cool. why not just grab it and stuff it in a pillow case? sure, it'll bite, and you'll get skunked, but their teeth are tiny and the musk washes off.

another trick, throw the pillow case over the head, grab cloth/snake, turn pillow case inside out (snake will be inside).

You killed one critter to save a bunch of other critters.its a snake,like coyotes and bears-for every one you see,there are 10+ more that you don't ..
We feed birds also,but lately they have disappeared.2 days ago I saw a goshawk perched in one of our trees,I've seen him 3 more times in the last 2 days,in the same spot !! Don't really want to shoot a raptor but might color him with a paintball gun ..

Did you at least cook your kill?

What made it so difficult to grab him? Did he look like a Coral snake?

I thought those were fucking cinnabons at first lol. Thatd definitely be one good ass prank if you could cover up the smell of burning snake carcass with cinnamon and icing haha

Don't feel bad. Another snake is waiting to do the same thing.
Snakes are really only good for eliminating rodents and what not from the yard. Including pretty birds. Unless it's a protected or endangered species, you did exactly what you are allowed to do to protect what you and your wife love.

The fact you made you this thread says alot about you as a person. And not in a bad way.

Enough outdoor cats and your snake problem should be solved. Course ,they might start going for the birds too... Tis life. Pet mongoose?

you could use sulfur around the perimeter of your yard and not have to worry about it. snake away is a rip off, but sulfur is cheap.

Don't feel bad about one serpent. You did it to PROTECT something that you and your wife care about, and because you did kill it your birds are still there. Flip it around and it feels the same. If you had a den full of snakes and hawk's were flying about it.....

King Snakes are harmless to humans and I'm wondering why it was not caught and
relocated instead of killed?

That snake would have came back to the food. My daughter had a corn snake that returned to our house a year later??? Impossible but there it was out side the house.
