Due to my state’s mandatory limit on the amount of flowering plants I can have at a time, I’m doing a one plant outdoor challenge this year. I chose this particular pheno for her hardiness, yield, and wonderfully even balance of chem and diesel terpenes. No I haven’t smoked her yet but she’s far enough along indoors that I know she’s a winner.

Anyway, since I have great local soil, right along the Rio Grande, I didn’t excavate too much. There’s probably about half a cubic yard of amended soil directly under the trellis. I plan to feed by top dressing with granular organic fertilizer, specifically Jobe’s all purpose organic fertilizer from Lowe’s.

The area I planted this clone is along a south facing wall, and gets full, direct sunlight until about 6pm. My plan is to get the maximum yield from this one plant without her exceeding 5 feet in height, hence the trellis. I plan to keep her pretty aggressive trained until she gets triggered.

Last year I did 5 plants under the same trellis, but they didn’t get planted until mid June. Those plants grew wonderfully, but the bud just wasn’t that good because it was cheap nirvana gear. I’m really excited to try this with a proven fire pheno, and I’ll document the progress here.

In case I haven’t made it clear, lol, the goal here is maximum yield. I’m definitely using the right pheno to achieve it, and I’m hoping those gnarly chem and diesel terpenes will be a little less appealing to caterpillars. I’m probably going to build a better trellis before I start tucking her, but other than that does anyone have anything to add that will help me get a better yield of nice, fat nugs? Here’s a pic of the clone in the ground and my extremely simple trellis, as well as a pic of the nicest cola from the plant the clone was taken from. All feedback and suggestions are appreciated, and I’ll keep this thread updated.

So I put a second cut out there to make some room in my veg tent, and as the plant I took these cuts from gets further along in flowering, it’s apparent that they will need some serious support between now and October. There’s a considerable stretch, the branches aren’t all that stiff and the buds get really heavy. This is the first pheno I’ve found that needs this much support, but the yield makes this a super attractive choice for this year’s outdoor grow. I need some advice on what to build and how to make sure the buds and branches stay supported.

I think a cage around them will be absolutely critical because we get some nasty storms in August and September and that will make it easy to throw a tarp over them and help keep everything from getting flattened. Other than that I’m wondering about the scrog — if I should put another horizontal trellis on at some point to keep them from getting way too tall. This is sort of my challenge for the year and I want it to be super rewarding. Here’s another pic of this pheno in full bloom from today. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Magnificent.
Thanks! Definitely the best thing I’ve found so far, but I’ve only been pheno hunting for about a year. She’s starting to get some nice red tones as the chlorophyll fades. The one inside probably needs about two more weeks. Haven’t smoked her yet but the smell is a perfect balance of chem and diesel. I just took a bunch more clones and I’m going to keep her around. Since she’s the nicest pheno I’ve found to date she was the only choice for this year’s outdoor grow.

Has anyone else here done this strain or something similar outdoors in the ground? Preferably in the Southwest? This strain is an F1 of biodiesel and stardawg and seems to be pretty evenly balanced between the two. The cut I put outside a couple weeks ago seems happy and this pheno is pretty damn resilient. Last year I got a bunch of nice 2 foot spears and about 12 ounces off the same trellis, but that was with some cheap nirvana genetics. This one should really produce and the smoke should be way better.

Here’s a couple more pics. I chopped the indoor plant last night. Don’t let the white pistils fool you. I chopped her at a solid 70 days and these buds are rock solid with nice sandy trichomes. Something to do with the stardawg so I’ve been told. The outdoor clones are really starting to take off. I’m going to have to build a better support system pretty soon. They seem to love being able to stretch their roots out through this fertile Rio Grande valley soil. My girlfriend just got her license too so now my plant count is doubled.

Haven’t updated this in a while. They’re getting pretty big. Trying to spread them out as much as possible. Also have a topanga canyon x purple punch in the ground that I’m training with stakes for now. Got a solid 2 months to go before they start flowering. Last year I stopped tucking way too soon and the colas ended up being really tall. This year I want to see how tidy I can keep them. I know it’s gonna start getting difficult in another few weeks.
