Hi all! First off - great forum!
I had some major problems with my seedling a few weeks ago and couldn't find much specifically relating to my issues (maybe i didn't search hard enough), so i'll put this out there b4 questions.
I totally snapped my seedling after about 4 days of growth. It was stretching, i used the straw technique, fiddled too much, and completely seperated the stem from the roots! I only have one seedling! Ouch! To fix this i basically used the cloning technique. Soaked the stem in water, within an hr i was back from the shops with hormone powder, smothered the stem, replanted nearly up to the leaves, watered twice a day for approx 8 days, put droplets of water on the leaves + made a humidity dome to slow transpiration. After about 10 days i could leave the dome off and leave it in full sun no problems. It never really wilted as such, apart from eating its cotyledons, but it did develop some kind of rot looking stuff on the ends of some of its leaves (when it snapped it had the cotyledons, 2 1/2 developed true leaves and the beginnings of the next set) possibly because the dome was left on a few days too long. I couldn't decide whether it was eating these leaves, or it was some kinda rot, either way i cut the stuff off. Its growing well now, so if you totally snap your only seedling - theres hope!!....except
This leaf problem has started up again about a week after i trimmed it off. It looks like the leaf is drying out at the tip, with a slightly grey area inbetween the green and the browning/tanning tip. I was wondering what you think. Is the plant still eating its leaves to put down roots? Is it some kind of rot i should cut off as its spreading? Just dryness spreading from the trimmed edge (its only happening on one leaf though)? Might it be a nitrogen deficiency?
The plant is about 3.5 weeks old (mostly spent recovering from my heavy handedness), been growing well after the dome, except this leaf tip issue, PH is a bit acidic - 5-5.5 (was gonna do som'n about that today, but might put off till after your thoughts), organic potting mix, no nutes yet (except a tiny token sprinkle of a few npk pellets early on...tiny), 80% of the day direct aussie summer sun, humidity 30-50% usually, no idea what strain.
Any thoughts appreciated!
