I actually used to dabble with shine myself. I had a 3 gallon stainless still that would distill on the stove. My favorite recipes were fruit based. Tho I did make corn whiskey and one time used Sweet Feed from the coop. That put me on my ass for real. I stopped doing it because it's really a lot of trouble for such small batches. I did enjoy it for a while tho, by the time you added up the cost of all your ingredients and yeast it really wasn't cheap for small batches. Do you use the CO2 for your plants? I mostly used 24-48 hour yeast and that was kinda pricey. My exes son borrowed my still and so know it's just gone. It was like $130 on eBay. I probably won't ever distill again. But, the reason I learned in the first place was for like survival. Knowing how to make shine, I mean it can be used as fuel or like rubbing alcohol or to drink it. maybe one of these days I'll try some of yours. What recipes do you use for your mash? I never used sugar but did use corn syrup several times.
ohhh stil talk
aye i used it for my tents ....did great u can get 5 days off a bucket of mash each bucket give me 1 gallon of 140 proof ( cost of a run mash 2 bucket 1 run 30 bucks for the buckets 3/4 bucks in power ice for water for worm 20/25.....total 60 bucks ....gallon in spring summer fall 80 bucks winter 100 bucks)
mine is run based ......same as the higher north shiners do
12 lbs of dark brown sugar
1 heaping table spoon of gysum (phs it to 4.0 and makes water like mountain stream)
6 tbs of yeast nutrient
1 quart of honey
4 gallons or so .......u go to the 6 gallon mark in a 7 gallon brew)
heapping of DaDY yeast (22% 23 if u get it right)
per bucket .......gallon for thumper rest for stil once yeast is settled (i use kleer)
Stil i have is a converted american stainless steel beer keg....1500w water heater element .......everything after is copper head packed with copper mesh going to a 5 gallon thumper going to a sealed worm running off a 55 gallon cooler and water pump (run yah 5 or 7 now with copper prices)......i can do 160 (165 if i double run but that is a bomb) i collect down to a 100 (with the thumper i know once i get there it is going to drop fast so i get half gallon of tails for the thumper next run)
i just need a electrical out let with a 20amp breaker (it is 15 amps heater 1 something for water pump)
1 run 2 gallons of 140 something proof 60 bucks to run 160 on recoop for profit of 100 bucks plus 10 days of increased Co2 in system
the trouble is ppl are idiots when they drink shine and want to blame someone .........so the supplier is normally that person so after awhile only a few ppl really order so it can pile up .....then u can store it in a barrel or a carboy
