My leaves are looking "burned" on the tips and the area just keeps growing until the entire leaf turns gray like ash.. Then the leaf curls up and dies. this has happened since we put them in our system, which is a homemade flood & drain. We had been watering them by hand with distilled water with a ph of 6.0 straight out of the bottle...until we found a submersible pump for our reservoir. They are now 27 days old from seed and we started them on 1/4 strength GH nutes..(Micro and FloraGrow) 2 days ago after being advised to do so. After adding the nutes, the tips on new growth began to "burn". I believe that is caused by to many nutes. We are using CFL 26W Daylight...like so many others on here. I thought distilled water was completely empty of nutes...?? Why does our plant show signs of burning with straight water...? Is it something completely different...? I know that I'm a noob to this so I may be over anxious, but this doesn't seem like a problem of that...BTW, I know the plant in pic 6 is laughable to say the least, but we didn't wan't to give up hope. Please don't focus on harassing us about that one...(yes I have seen the GrowPassion420 thread!) ;-) and ps, my camera's closeup macro SUCKS....

You lost me. You say you are using 1/4 nutes and then you ask why you are seeing burns with straight water?

Something else to consider..... Those hydroton pebbles are NOT keeping the light out... so when the roots break out the sides of those peat pots (which I suspect they already are)... the light is hitting the roots. Net pots and hyrdroton pebbles do very little to keep the light out....

I'm a newbie.... but I'm sure someone more experienced can offer more information on the subject of light on the roots... :peace:

that was another question me and my boyfriend had...some of them have roots coming out all over the place and one of the greener plants is not very tall and i don't see any roots coming out of the bottom do you think that the peat pellets have stunned its growth i was told the peats can do that???

I hear nothing but good things about the peat pots so no I don't think they are stunting the growth..... I DO think the roots coming out the sides and being exposed to light could be a problem. You must keep light from hitting the roots.

We thought about that too. But, what are you supposed to do except fill the entire tray with some sort of soil or medium? When we went to our local hydro store we were looking at some of their setups and all the ebb & flow or Flood & Drain systems had only the netpots filled with hydroton and all of their plants roots were just laying there in the open... of course the plants weren't cannabis, but does that even matter??

Yes... exactly. Fill it with Hydroton just like you have inside the net pots.

I scanned in a picture from one of my books.... as you can see each tub had 3 clones in net pots... but the net pots don't just sit in the tub... the surrounding tub is also filled with hydroton to help keep out the light as the roots grow outside the netpots. Notice the tubs are also black and not clear? helps keep out the light.

Doesn't matter what kind of plant it is... light hitting the roots is BAD NEWS. :peace:

If you can, start to try and listen to your plants a little bit to see what they are needing. Much more important than the 3 days since nutes figure, is are the nute burns healing? Are the plants looking like they need nutes?

I think you are exactly right. Go smaller and ease them back on. Good luck.
