I'm starting my second grow, three DWC 5 gallon buckets under 600w. I had a few L.S.D. grown in soil (1 gallon pots) on my first grow and I really like one of the phenos (REALLY like it! Sativa dominant, it's like "Excuse me sir, do you take any green matter with you trichomes?") and decided to reveg it in the same room I'm starting my new grow in until I can get another room for vegging only.
I had a slight issue with gnats at the end of the last grow (MG potting soil...), nothing too bad, a few fly ribbons took care of the worst of it. My new seedlings are just starting to sprout and I'm seeing massive numbers of the little buggers. I didn't think it would be an issue seeing as the soil pot will be out of the room soon, but the gnats seem to have infested the hydroton in my DWC. I didn't know they could propagate in hydro grows....
I see lots of answers for gnats in soil, but what does one do when they invade your DWC buckets? Can they survive in the hydroton alone? Will removing the infected pot take care of the problem?
The seedlings are only about 3 inches tall at this point (which scares the hell out of me, thats a very small amount of root matter for a lot of hungry baby gnats), the roots haven't yet pierced their basket bottoms and I may be able to very gently remove the rockwool cubes and spray down the hydroton with highly diluted dish soap, think this'll take care of em?
