was gonna post this in advanced but it doesn't get much action it seems
So.. How important is it to stop light leaks
Everyone always says complete darkness for 12 hrs or however long night period is but then some people grow in open tents or open top corner blocked off
I kinda think Hermies are mostly genetic I'm not an expert just always learning and experimenting
I don't bother light proofing veg areas but I'm always needing more areas to flower
I've seen a guy grow in his bedroom in the corner sectioned off with an open too and he wasn't concerned with even the bedroom light bulb during lights out
For the most part his grow "box" was dark still with the open top
I've always stayed on the safe side and light proofed and been worried about herms but I've never really had any just one incident but there was also bag seed growing in the room
Anyways just wanted to hear some ideas and input open up some discussion about ambient light or partial light leaks during flower
People argue that the moon is so many candle lights and streetlight hps/mh doesn't keep from flowering or cause herms
Indoors could be totally different maybe any light at all will mess the cycle up idk I haven't tried it
So let me know what y'all think

I think it's a lot less important than most people make it out to be.

That being said I keep my flower room dark and don't enter during dark period.

I've had a few malfunctions in the past such as timers messing up or breaking and effecting light schedule but always seemed to catch it soon. Never had Hermes from lighting.

I have wondered myself , I think it would have to be a specific amount of light/lumens/par to tell the plant its time to due my thing , that being said I would say it depends on how much of a light leak , I have left tomatoes sprout/seedling under the kitchen sink and they are shooting for the light leaks from the cabinet doors. Better to be safe than sorry , light the exterior up take a roll of tape and go to town.

No...at night time you still get a fair bit of U.V bouncing around plus a good few of the other colours
Well sure, there's some ambient junk around, but the actual light reflecting off the moon in no way affects the sleep cycle of the plant was my assertion...It isn't in a spectrum the plants are bothered by.

its not strong enuff to have a major influence, it still has a triggering effect in the plant but thats with the gravitational stuff...way to subtle to be bothered about.

It's not important. I had a curtain over my closet that didn't touch the floo
yeah.. i got a sky light and never worry about the moonlight when going into flower mode, or any time, the only worry is the damn moths and midges, -i use U.v 24/7, tends to attract the little buggers
