So I got to thinking one day and this is what happened,,,

So to get an idea of the grow area on the screen here is a yard stick reference.

2k watts of lights, three ballasts and I'm running 12 midnight to 12 noon at a constant 74 degrees without A.C. Cool Running's,,,,,,,

Now keep in mind that I have always grown outdoors for the last 40 some years.
This is my first room and I have had it for a year. It's a work in progress. I just added a 4x4 section INSIDE the shed with a 600 watt light for the babies. Pics of that in a bit. I spent some buccu bucks on different types of containers and systems. I am showing you what works for me. I will show you what did not work for me as we go along.

The Sun has risen and I'm headed outside to snap some pic's of Red's new outdoor Hydro Garden for her Veggies this year. I'ma setting hers up with some of the failed equipment from the shed's beginnings.

Time to fire one up,,,,,

and remember,,,,,,

So here are a few things that did not work in the shed. See all them holes on the top? The girls get way too crowded and do not do well at harvest due to it. I insulated the tubs with a wrap around and under and used a chiller. I still had to drop 1 litre bottles of ice to keep them between 65 and 70 degrees. Too much light got through to the roots with these tubs and the end results were not that great.

Water temp is a key element among a few others and with the igloo 120 gt 5 day coolers it is easy to maintain a steady 66 to 67 degrees for days on end without and ice bottles to adjust down or warm water to adjust up.

Red now gets my hand me downs. Wait til you see the Nutes she gets to play with that did NOT work for the shed grow. I'll set up the innards of the tubs and I'm going to run a recirculating water flow out of a cooled reservoir to help keep the water temps down during the heat of the summer. Her set up will be Vegetable only.

more on the way

Over the years I have learned an important lesson or two and I'm sure I'll remember the other one, sooner or later, but the one thing I know is Roots do not like LIGHT. They react to light the way a Blonde reacts when you mention her Roots, while gazing down upon her head. Not a good remark all things considered. So I'm told.

So I got the scuba gear on and said the heck with it, lets show em some Roots that everybody can love!

Oh the other thing!

Roots LOVE Jacuzzi's! Did you know that? Little tidbit of knowledge I'm sharing
with ya there and yep, yer welcome.

See the bubbles come up from the bottom of the cooler and when they reach the surface they react in a manner that allows the nutrient matter to,,,,,yada, frickin yada,,,,, the bubbles explode and the nutes are atomized into the atomosphere in the cooler, thereby making it a nutrient rich environment.

Pretty frickin' Cool huh?

My mind tends to wander here and there and I run across pics that I'd like to share.

Red holding on of the girls after harvest.

The outdoor crew hard at it. Those were the days. And I'll miss the outdoor growing.

And my fearless companion on duty as always. Let's hear it for Pip! Yay Pip! ( I told her I'd make her famous and this is the look she shot me)

Your roots show a problem called roping which cuts down on your yield. Somethings not ideal still in your setup.

I see zero roots growing outside the water, only in the water, so I think you have wasted some money on a bunch of small air pumps which can't add up to enough to do what you are trying for. You think you're getting aero action but I don't see it.

Do you have any big air pumps?

It's a deep water culture kind of thing.
It's working so far.

I needed another room, for the babies, ya know?

600 watts. 8 inch fan for venting drawing from the main room. Going to put in two 120 qt coolers.

And heres another thing I was contemplating as I was a posting today.

My system may not be ideal for others. It's been a bitch for an ol' dirt farmer to adjust to, but in the meantime my harvests and knowledge are both growing by sticking to this system. Thats only three girls going right now. As I said before, it's a work in progress. Only time will tell.

I get that but the way you said the bubbles made water droplets break into the air you are describing a krusty bucket type system that supports growth above and below the water line, But you don't have that.

Just a little discrepancy in how you described the thing made me think you were trying for more than dwc... I guess you aren't though. Technically you described your system as more than it is, that's all.

Anyway you still have roping going on on the roots and it's not good man. Your water line is either too low or you are not top feeding until the roots get enough into the water to avoid that.

A simple little change to avoid that will up your yield in the future.

Sorry didn't mean to nitpick just noticed...

No harm no foul. Just another thing to research.

Could be that the basket openings are a tad too small.

I'll keep trying.

I got a question bout your Scrog( i think thats it) Net

After you added that did you periodically tie down the plants to it or
just let them grow between the squares-- and if you didnt tie them down
does that still accomplish what u were going for ?

I gots a number of plants too and need to make it more effiecient

I like to use the term WeedWeaving. Once the screen gets setup I go in and weave the stems as they grow. Tie ties to begin with then as they grow and lengthen under the screen the nubs shoot up through.

This is only 3 plants:peace:

yeah and it's a good thing Red is a forgiving type.

Asking for permission usually leads to a no.

it's high time to get my ass in gear.

Well, not before I get into some trouble with Red that is. Ya see, my brain scrambles thoughts, like Mickey's Diner on the Loop in St. Paul scrambles eggs. Sometimes their runny, other times their firm. When they get runny, Red has a way of getting me to "firm up" the thought process a bit and rethink things. And there's where the trouble begins,,,,,,

Woke up today and looked in on the babies and it looks like they need a bigger room and maybe some nice jacuzzi action. So I start to look through the supply closet for some extra pumps (none-need 4 @$65.00e) air stones, (none) air hose (plenty) net pots, (double plenty) ) grow medium x-tra plenty) 120 qt Igloo (none-need one @ $60.00e.

OK, it's saturday fav Hydro store is open. Good so far. Grab the keys and the wallet. Jump in the truck and off like a bolt. Spend some MORE dough, gather the goodies and rush home before Red gets back. Broke at least three state laws and maybe one federal on the way home. (Mr. Mailman, I saw you in plenty of time, no need for the dramatic, leap, hop and girlie scream as I came around the corner. You had at least 3 inches before the bumper woulda hit ya, sissy) slide the dually in the driveway with no sign of Red, scrambled out the door, got the tailgate down, grabbed a bag of pumps and the cooler thinking to myself, sweet I beat Red home,,,, and bingo. Red slides up into her spot. As I turn and look at her, I swear she was smiling. Then she saw what I had in my hands and the look she shot me with went straight to the nugs. Busted the damn budget again.

And she's pissed cause I didn't share my plan with her. Well I figure what the hell, in for a dime, in for a dollar. I told her Jay was on the way with the rest.

'THE REST!' And that was not a question, the way she put it. She looks in the back of the now empty 8ft bed on the dually and goes about a foot and a half off the ground and lets it rip.

THE REST of WHAT? The gear, says I, sheepishly. She then reminds me of the "rules" about my thoughts and yada yada yada was about all I heard after that.

Then I look her in the eye and say " Honey what would you have me do, KILL THE BABIES?"

So here are the babies. Got some work to do in the shed and after Red gets done with me I may be able to update ya on the new addition.

Looking good man, youve definitely done your research. But where are you getting your babies from, you got a momma in another spot?

Can you expand on what this is and how it's a bad thing?
I have the same thing going on and my plants are thriving.

I kept the water in my DWC a little lower on purpose, so the roots could get some O2, which is supposed to be a good thing, no?
