So, just mixed up a hydroponic solution - 2,800 PPM?!

I had some old Miracle Grow soluble fertilizer, and watched a few youtubes. Basically the recipe was add 2.5 tablespoons Miracle Grow, 2.5 tablespoons Calcium Nitrate, and 1.25 tablespoons of Epsom salt to 5 gallons. I did that - I used tap water that I added some sodium thisolsate (or something like that) and a little vitamin C to dechlorinate it.

The mix looked ok, nothing came out of solution or anything, and it has a nice light blue tint. But I tested the PPM and it came out over 2,800. That sounds high to me, is it not? If so, what is the desired PPM more/less?

And yes, I know this mix is not ideal, I'm just playing Mr. Science lol.

Thanks so much!!!

Not sure what you mean myke? I poured even more water out, and added some hose water, plus it rained a good bit today. Did a ppm reading - 1,100 more/less. That should be fine no? They seem to be doing ok. Thanks!!!

no offence mate but that sounds horrendous for feeding hydro plants. What ppm is your water to start with?
calmag is mostly an r/o water thing. If you're using tap you won't need much, if any at all.
cal and mag are what make up most of the water ppm.

For coco/hydro they can only absorb roughly 100ppm per week of veg.
So week 3, 300ppm.
Week 5, 500ppm,
Week 8 800ppm.
It's not an exact science. Lots of variables but its close enough.
If you grow in a res you can see it clear as day.
