So Prohibiting Marijuana is Supposed to Keep Kids Safe?

One of the main goals of marijuana prohibition is to keep our youth out of harms way, however our government seems to have overlooked a few things when they ignorantly created these laws.

1. Marijuana is a scheduled 1 drug which paralells its charges with that of cocaine or heroine possesion. For a substance less harmfull than tobacco or alchohol, this is ridiculous.

2. Apparently to keep kids safe we throw them in juvie with all the real criminals. (and not to mention all the real drugs that find their way in there)

3. If you are convicted of marijuana possesion you will be sent to jail, lose your drivers liscence, create great misery for your family, not be able to go to some schools, get certain jobs, or get into good colleges, and have a much harder life. but hey, its for your own good right?

4. No laws, or drug prevention program can keep kids from theyre own curiosity. Might as well save them the trouble (and billion dollars in court fees each year) and let them enjoy this god given plant:weed:

you're absolutely right.. there is nothing that can convince me that arresting kids for marijuana will help anyone ever..
and then we treat alcohol like a joke.. i never heard about anyone forced into alcohol rehab as a kid.. meanwhile i think everyone here will agree that alcohol is by far the more potent inebriating substance.. not that we need alcohol prohibition - we learned that lesson once right?

not to mention that kids have easier access to cannabis now thats its illegal, by putting it in retail stores it would be much harder for kids to obtain

The ONLY reason why the 'War on drugs' includes cannabis... is becuase it is VERY profitable for the legal system. Who is easier to arrest and prosecute: A stoner or a meth-head?
You bust someone for the herb, throw em in jail, take away thier life and falmily. When you finally get out jail or prison, you have less than nothing, no friends or family and have officially reached the bottom dregs of society, since you can no longer get a decent job (being an ex-convict). Chances are you will again end up in jail, prison or even dead. The ONLY ones who profit from all this misery? The U.S. legal system. The u.S. legal system is a self-perpetuating machine, not unlike our own over-bloated government. All that money is like crack to the legal system. Time to take away THEIR crack pipe!

no one benefits from a drug arrest. except the courts and attorneys.
why would the government want people using a plant when its far more profitable to sell u pills that might make u feel better in some aspect but then cause some other symptom that requires u to see a doctor again and buy more pills...
corporations are in bed with the governments.
and neither care for kids
sorry for the rambling

I agree that cannabis is really easy for children, now a days, to get with it being illegal. And especially since it is illegal and not able to get in stores, dealers will want to sell there stuff to make money, and they'll sell to anyone, so they will secretly give it to the kids and the kids will happily accept.
Therefore this "keeping if illegal" to protect the children is a bad idea.

i have close friends who drank constantly since they were 13.. those guys don't do it just on weekends - some of them have liver damage already..

i don't know where you live if there aren't dealers there who will screw you.. my town's population is like 2,000 and we have tons of meth heads who will sell to kids and you will agree that it is not safe for children to hang out with psychos who wave guns around and do dangerously insane shit all day..

weed and alcohol are choices that young people will always have to make for themselves.. like having sex or joining the military.. we spend billions trying to shield them from the existence of pot and it does nothing..

Here in Finland politicians say that making cannabis legal would make harder drugs even a bigger problem...... Thats just playing stupid i'd say. If you cant get marijuana legally you have to buy it from dealers who often sell harder drugs and will probably encourage you to buy or try them too. These dealers are usually part of a larger criminal organization here in Finland and when the goverment makes you buy marijuana from them they are just giving them recourses to grow larger and ruin more lives. The funny thing is that most of the politicians here are so ignorant that they say publicly things like this ''The first cannabis needle can kill you'' NEEDLE?? KILL?? One thing i consider the weirdest thing of all.... If you study a bit of Finnish laws and such you realize that legalizing medical marijuana would be easy as hell and even easier supervise. But even so after activists have proven tens of times how things are they deny the facts and claim that marijuana is a drug that will ruin or even kill ppl. Altough things are going in the better way cause we are getting younger people in to the goverment every year and they are a bit more acceptable or even pro-cannabis minded. We can only hope that the change happens fast.

Finnish agriculture is dying slowly but Hemp and Marijuana farming would easily save it!

In recorded history there has never been a death of over dose on marijuana.I also recently read about a study done in one of the northern colleges.Their test on marijuana and alcohol. It was a tripple blind test. They found No Noticeable Problems when they smoked pot and Drove a car.It didn`t cause ANY Problems because they payed closer attention when driving or doing anything that reqired consertration.

ya its very depressing that by keeping it illegal we are also harming our kids in the way of environmental damage which could be avoided by using hemp for bio fuel (no need for oil and no need to clean up oil spills) as a biodegradable plastic (not filling up our landfills for thousands of years) and as a paper ( no need to cut down any more trees) as well as many other applications, and it seems weird to me that we dont hear of environmental groups pushing for legalization cus it would help save the planet.
