had a problem like that in my house my friend bought a new breaker that had higher pop capacity and now al is well

make sure you have a skilled electrition guide you if this is possible as it could cause a fire if done incorrectly

just bought this house about 3 weeks ago.. still getting to know it but i figured out a method that shoould get me by for a little bit. Ran an extension cord back out the window intomy back yard through the doggy door into my living room. works like a charm just a little suspicious looking but itll work for now

Be very careful, this is how fires can get started

make sure your wire gauge matches your circuit breaker
(wire gauge = wire size)

If your wire has a lower load capacity than the breaker the wire could heat up and start a fire long before the circuit would ever trip

here is a little guide that should help people installing new wire and breakers
which i pulled from (Wire sizes, gauges, for breakers)
Suggested Gauge vs. Breaker Amp
For Copper branch circuits and feeders.
Gauge Breaker Amps

  • 14----15 amp
  • 12----20 amp
  • 10----30 amp
  • 8------40 amp
  • 6------55 amp
  • 4------70 amp
  • 2------95 amp
  • 1/0---150 amp
  • 2/0---175 amp
  • 3/0---200 amp
the left column is the wire gauge-----right is circuit breaker rating

An extension cord for an AC is usually frowned upon. After the AC has been on for a while, grab he cord and make sure its room temp .

Yup especially where AC cord and extension cord meet, try it just shorty after the compressor kicks on to see if you have a major fire hazard on your hands.

so if my buddy put the breaker in i think he replaced a 15amp with a 30amp

but it has poped once since he installed it. does that mean my wire is big enought since the breaker popped and there was no fire?

wow thanks for the information guys im completly ignorant on the this subject. When i bought the extenstion cord i bought the bigger more expensive size, i cant remember which size but i know it was the highest gauge at walmart. I checked the cord and it is not hot or anyhing just average. How big of a risk is this with a 8000 btu swamp cooler?

I think swamp cooler will make too much humidity, not good
