So who started growing now?

I haven't run into even ONE person who started to grow now that it's legal. I know the seed thing...but regardless. There easy to get legal or not.
Yet still, I've not heard of one new grow.
How about you?
Was there no rush to grow your own? Well there had to be some. But my guess is the number was/is low...
Good questions. Here in DC you can order from the "milk-and-cookie" people using an app and have it delivered to your home, sometimes less than one hour. You can get flower, concentrates and edibles too.

That said, I have two grow stores near me, both owned by the same people. One is a half-mile walk and the other is a short, five-minute drive. They have both been in business for three years now.

I wonder how many started growing but kept quiet about it? I started in 2017 and haven't told anyone. My buddy figured it out since I wasn't stopping by as often. Maybe some burple leaked from the garage last summer? I smoke out in the garage so surely people know, but then, half the city is smoking these days.

This Washington Post article for example suggests it smells like weed everywhere, all the time:

I know of 4 since Oct 17th, that have started indoor grows. The main thing holding a lot back a lot of growers is a lack of easy and accessible starting materials.

Most of the people I know that have vegetable gardens buy there plants in the spring. Not many start from seed. Once clones are readily available I expect more to give it a try.

Cheers

Imo The canadian basement is the ideal place to grow much of the year. It can be simple and easy. Jul & Aug are a lil more challenging with heat but most of the year I fight to add humidity. I've helped people get started with a dual shop light leaned up against a wall. I reccomend newbies try and veg in a closet @ 18/6. Set the light to go out at you normal bedtime and you will be able to incorporate 2 checks per day as part of your normal routine. Completely possible to grow in the basement and use the heat inside the house. I veg in a closet upstairs during nov - march and move them back downstairs to another closet in the summer. U need a tray, a heat mat, distilled water, shop light potting mix and some basic knowledge. If smell is a concern search for low odour strains like durban or northern lights. Also i think people are under estimating what will occur on the guerilla side of things. Being able to travel with sprouted seeds and 4 rooted cuts is gonna be huge.

If a tree falls in the forest, Does anybody hear? I don't think the federal law says anything about indoor outdoor, just must be out of public view & 4 plants per residence.
I remember when this was a sport. There's a foot of fresh snow outside and today i'm going to my local garden centre in my own car to buy 2 bales of ss#4 and 110l of perilite and bringing it home in the day light.

I think it was Alberta's plan but now it depends on the town you live in. If you don't live in town you get to decide

I'm in AB, have a basement grow room and only grow during the winter months. easier to keep heat and humidity in check and don't have to worry about insects. get 2 crops in easily and finish up with a few pounds of bud and a shitload of trim for making concentrates etc.

the new laws worked out good for me, I only ever grew 4 at a time anyways. I've helped a few guys out with indoor setups now, but I think lots will try the outdoor thing.

Different rules for each province about growing your 4 outside. I think it's indoor only here in Alberta unless you're a medical grower then it's up to you.

I have a medical for 12g/day now so if I registered I could grow 59 plants indoors legally. Could grow in and out or outdoors only too but I'm so far north that outdoor won't work without a black-out greenhouse or maybe autos.

Still don't want to register to grow tho and I've had more than 59 plants going at a time with no problems growing here the last 18 years. If I get busted it'll be a first offense so I'm not too worried.

Real nice of the gov't to allow 4 lousy plants then basically ban that by demanding seeds must come from approved sources when they know seeds are hard to get unless you are hooked up with an LP that sells seeds and there's only a couple of those. Need a few sacrificial lambs to fight that in court and get that ruling overturned so that all can legally grow those great strains they bought online. The LPs don't want to be selling the great genetics they stole from legendary breeders so just schwag seeds will be available anyways.

I figured there would be a big rush on the grow shops then all sorts of lightly used gear to pick up cheap a year later when nOObs gave up trying but sure doesn't seem that way.

Once us old farts die off the gov't may finally be able to knock out the black market but that won't happen for a while.

I tried some autos outside on my deck last summer, figured because of our long days of light up here in the north during summer (17 hrs during the solstice) they would turn out nice. didn't really work out that great, got less than an oz from each. gonna give it another try this summer again. it's just for fun anyways.

I figured probably only an oz or so off each plant but also figured if I do it I'll plant a 100 or more then pull the males when they show. I have 7.5 acres with more than half of it in woods. All poplar/birch. Could seed around the 7th of June or so and frost seems to be coming later each year. We had frost as early as Aug. 15 the first couple years but last year got past the end of Sept. before we got a killing frost. Been here since '01.

we don't put our garden in until after May long weekend, you'd be safe seeding in June I'd think. I think it was 2016 we got almost a foot of snow on May long. weather up here can be nuts
