(SoCal) Growing a 16 weeker now, would it get kicked out of flower come May?

I really want to sprout some landrace Acapulco Gold seeds I have here in southern california.

If I transplant them outside in February, will I be able to harvest them around May, or since the days start getting longer, would it get kicked out of flower and start re-vegging?

The AG I have is 12-16 week flower time.

Here in socal nights get down to near freezing, but for the most part its around 45-55F at night, and 70F during the day. Doesn't rain much, maybe a bit in March, April.

How many hours and minutes of daylight do you get between feb & may in your location,?

Im in southern california:
February 1st I get 10.5 hrs of sunlight.
May 1st I get 13.5 hrs of sun
May 31st I get 14.4 hrs of sunlight.

Would that work? Or would I go back into veg before I'm able to finish?

Es possible. Only way to know, is to grow.

Plants react to increasing daylength with rapid vegetative growth. However, a landrace such as Acupulco, with its 16 week finishing time, may be induced to flower after the first 4 to 6 weeks, and it may start to revegetate as the daylength gets upwards of 14 hours.

I grew some Zamaldelica (Ace seeds, 12 - 14 week flowering time) in Jamaica, where daylength doesn't quite reach 14 hours during the longest days of the year, and that hybrid responded by flowering after 4 to 6 weeks and then revegging and reflowering over a 6 month time frame.

I hope you try it out regardless, and update us on how it goes. It'd be interesting knowledge for the community.

I'd say give it a try. You may be pleasantly rewarded.

Thanks Crisnpropa - that's awesome, how'd you end up in Jamaica? Sounds like the perfect place to grow.

I have three 30-gallon pots, growing with a friend (he supplies the space, I the research and some experience) so thinking what to plant exactly.

Maybe 2 autoflowers (2 pots) and 3 AG seeds (1 pot)... I already have an ACE seeds Banghi Haze sprout that's a week old, could put it in with a autoflower). We'd be pretty bummed if they all started revegging and we'd have to wait till Oct/Dec.

I want to run smaller pots (3gal? 5gal?) alongside the 30 gallon pots... smallest I could run and still grow landrace sativas like Acapulco Gold. So if I get a male I can move it offsite easily.

Still can't figure out what the smallest size would be, while not being a pain in the ass with watering and nutrients. Was thinking running my no-till mix in a 5 gallon plastic pot, so I don't have to water as much (fabric pots dry out fast). Want to do a 3 gallon, but some say that it'll get rootbound and such.

It's a good place to grow, has its challenges and is not perfect. Water is probably the biggest issue. Given the correlation between UV radiation and THC production, that is a plus according to one book that I refer to.

My crazy father bought a piece of land here along with my mother, and we've been visiting for extended stays for over 30 years. Currently here now just to get away from the miserable gray and cold of New England. Posted a photo of one of my first or second visits. I think I was 2.5 or 3 years old.

Yea I agree the 3 gallon pots may get filled out. And the larger containers can be a pain because of the weight if you need to move them or relocate them.

Looking forward to seeing the progress! Enjoy the journey and the experience.

That sounds awesome man, living in Jamaica, looks like a fun time with good people from the photo. I always wondered, what's it like living down there for a white dude? I always wanted to go there and backpack around.

Regarding the pots, think the 5 gallon ones would be too big of a pain to move around?

(I always get confused on whether people are referring to "true" gallons, at home depot and nurseries the 5 gallon pots are really 3.7 gallons)

Hmm, I would call it: an educational experience. Ha ha ha. Travel and exposure to other cultures and nations is a great education.

I suppose the 5 gal depends on your physical abilities. Shouldn't be too much to manage.

If and when you are ready to make some moves, send me a pm and I'll be happy to share any guidance. To me, the golden years of this island are long gone. If you like reggae music, have an open mind, enjoy good food, then I would say do not miss the chance.
