Sog 12/12 from seed pot size?

Im currently running some plants 12/12 from seedling, i gave em just a couple weeks of veg.

My soil mix is basically subcools , but i substitute more composted manure in place of guano.

I went w 1 gallon pots and Did the bottom 3rd with my soil and the rest w fox farms. I figured make the roots grow down to the fertile soil rather than risk burning them.

Curious what pot size or soil mods others have used for organic grows like this.

My lights are 4 QB 304s in a 6x2 area

No experience here but 1 gallon seems a little small, especially if only 1/3 of it is amended. Could you go with a raised bed instead of individual pots?

I think @Hot Diggity Sog did an organic SOG grow that I saw on here...

I grow in 7 gallon cloth pots and use Coast of Maine's Stonington Blend Grower's Mix, which is specifically designed for growing cannabis. I started in a 3 gallon, and harvested 5 ozs of flower, moved to a 5 gallon and harvested 9 ozs and I'm now growing in a 7 gallon pot and harvesting 12 to 16 ozs of flower per grow.

I only grow a single plant in a 3'X3' indoor tent under a Mars Hydro TWS3000.

I've used 4x4 grow tables filled with soil for SoG from seed before to maximise root space since you'll need to cull male/hermaphrodite plants but also want to max soil to grow in. One gal pots definitely seem small

How many 1g pots do you have in that 6x2 area?

Depending on how many plants you have, this is one of the best ways to grow if you're not concerned with plant counts. Some quick math to consider.

6x2 area = 12sqft

In a 12sqft area you could probably fit 4 5g pots, or 12-16 1g pots. Depending on the diameter of the pots.

In the 5g pot scenario

You'll need to get your seedlings started in solo cups until fully rooted. About 1 month. Then, you'll need to transplant them into 5g pots and veg until fully rooted, another 1-1.5 months. Then, you have 8-10 weeks of flower. We'll assume 8 weeks for simple math. So, 1 month in solo + 1 month in veg + 2 months in flower = 4 months to harvest.

In the 5g pot scenario, you will get 3 harvests per year. You can get 4 harvests per year if you have a dedicated veg room, which not many people do because of plant counts.

In the 1g pot scenario

You start your seeds in solo cups outside of the grow room until rooted. About a month from seeds popping, planted in cups, and fully rooted. Then, you transfer into 1g pots and trigger 12/12 immediately. Flower for 2 months. Since you're growing the solo cups outside of your flower room, you get 6 harvests per year because you're going straight into 12/12. You would have to start new solo cups 4-5 weeks prior to harvest to ensure you get 6 harvests per year.

Now we'll assume an average yield of 1oz of flower per 1g of soil.

5g pot yields

4 5g pots = 20g of soil = 20 oz per harvest. 3 harvests x 20 oz per harvest = 60oz per year.

1g pot yields

12-16 1g pots = 12-16g of soil = 12-16oz per harvest. 6 harvests x 12-16oz per harvest = 72-96oz per year.

What's more, the 1g pots will be purely top nugs/colas, whereas the 5g pots will have a lot of fluff and smaller nugs on the bottoms of the plants.

Multiple smaller plants will outperform smaller amounts of bigger plants, every time. Back when weed was illegal all over the country, this is how most growers would do it back in the day. It was illegal whether you had 1 plant or 100 plants, right? Not to mention, it is much easier to hide a grow with smaller plants. No waiting around on veg time, you had plants ready to go into 12/12 immediately after harvest and the cycle would never end, ensuring there was always product on hand.

tl;dr: By growing with multiple smaller plants, you eliminate veg time, double your number of harvests, and get nothing but beautiful top buds without any fluff.

Ive got "five" flowering cuz thats all im allowed :bigjoint: but yes yes, 12 square feet :blsmoke:

Not too new at this either and im not having any issues, was just curious if any other organic growers were using 1 gallon pots in SOG?

I’ve run 1 gal and 3 gal. If you do a 3 gal expect 3-4 ft height and more trimming running a sog from overlap of fan leaves.

1 gal will keep them more single cola up the middle, I do have to water every other day deep into flower when I go this route. Restricts height way more as well during stretch. Good luck!

Been doing it for years using 1 gallon DIY Sips! because I like a variety, i been using the same soil for 3 years, or 4,
like being in cruise control, water, water, feed! average 2 oz, each plenty for me! jumping to three gallon less pots!
germination, straight to the soil!
