SoG, thanks for the info. I was concerned the chiller would be too loud. I'll most likely get the 1 hp Arctica model so It can help cool the room. Not a huge price difference between the 1/2 and 1hp models. Let's hope it's not that loud! I'll keep the A/C vents in the room along with the extraction fan as a precaution. I'd like to have some kind of backup system just to be on the safe side. Looks like it's time for me to run that 220v sub panel!

What other methods of growing are you considering? I'm doing a vertical scrog at the moment with 5 ft. bushes :) It looks like one single hedge with only 6 plants. I can show ya a pic if you're interested. Very fun way to grow! I think i'll do a tree run when I get bored with my current setup :)

i think they got them on sale at walmart now!

mine was originally $150-200

got that roll back price for $60 bucks.

not bad for 1500AVR 900 watt 170minute backup time.

overkill i know, but at least if power goes out for a few hours, pumps will have enough juice for at least a day if need be

wise decision to going with the 1hp, i wish i know then what i know now
i cant remember the steps, 1 1/2hp will allow you to cool other things in the room
if you through in my CoolBox which by design works off a main exhausts;
you can tap anything that's exhausting heat into

Geez, 4 posts went up while I was typing my post up. The bio buckets are cool, thanks for the link. My first hydro run will most likely be fast recirculating dwc. My aero cloner doesn't count though it was hydro.

Heath Robinson specializes in recirculating hydro. I've learned a ton from him, along with Al. B, of course. DoubleDs has one of the most impressive setups i've seen. He grows massive 3-4 lb. trees! Indoors! Mblaze has some nice trees but I prefer the advantages of vertical lighting.

I'll go pull the pics off my camera and post up here for ya. I'm hoping to find other people growing this way.

That's a hell of a deal on the backup. I have a 1200v for my computer but I need a bigger one so I can include my monitor. Looks like i'll be making a trip to Wally world.

Here are those pics of my vertical scrog. These were taken last week at about 14 days into flower. Room is 7.5x8x8 with 6 girls. There's really only room for 4 plants but I squeezed 2 small og kush's in there so I'll have some variety.

I just gave them a major trim today as it was getting too thick. Looks like ass but it will be better for the buds to develop...I hope!

oh yea, when you mentioned the filter idea it reminded me of mine.


i know you told me to keep you updated so here it goes:


it works, however be careful with heavily odorous strains. LOL the white russian isnt really an herb smell more pungent than anything...but it wrecked havoc on my filter. soooo i dont know if i need to clean my filter or just double up.

came home the other day and i know for a fact i could smell alpha diesel in my living room

Thanks guys.

This grow is totally experimental so i'm learning as I go.

In my last grow with much smaller plants, I had to put stakes in to support the branches. That was a daily routine that got old real quick! Branches were snapping left and right from the weight of the buds. This time around, I figured a net would make my life easier :) And the benefit of being able to train them is a bonus. It's not that much work now that everything is in place. Just gotta water them daily. Next step, automate my feeding and get a chiller to cool my lights. Or buy a mini split system.

SoG, are you gonna be selling your CoolBox? (icebox on steroids!) I'm close to buying a few of HI's 8" Ice boxes. I have one 6" icebox already. I thought about making one like yours but didn't have a big enough chiller at the time. Also, there are so many different heat exchangers out there. Have you tested different ones for efficiency? If I had more time, i'd play around with building one, just need to know what kind of exchanger to buy. I'd probably make the housing out of fiberglass as i'm more handy with that than a welder. I'd end up blowing myself up somehow!

I need to find a place to buy the JBJ Arctica chiller. You guys have any suggestions? The prices are all over the place when I check the net. Hoping you guys have a "go to" place for chillers.

You are right LB...:razz: It's all in the terminology...

Al B. Fuct never Topped of Fimmed... he pruned...

MBlaze Fims... but he also prunes... and only tops by mistake...

My trees have been topped many times as they were moms and got branches cut off all the time... but they were also Fimmed (once the tree project began) and pruned...

All these techniques are very different.. but very easy to mislabel as the other...:lol:

OR.. I am just really stoned...:eyesmoke:

You got lucky brother!

I went to my local Walmart and didn't find the deal. Actually, didn't find the ups at all. They only had a tiny little backup that is good enough for a small air pump. Man, I was hoping to pick me up a couple of them. Maybe they're clearing them out and I just missed them.

i guess i am lucky to have a good walmart.... one of my friends, i told him our walmart has superthrive.... he swore up and down i was lying...but no shit, come spring time they start stocking it.

you may be right, they were trying to clear out product for new product?

Totally new to growing just got a license. Have friends that have said SoG is the way to grow, I need info, how to set up, step-by step, from lights to nutrients and everything, lend a helping hand and send me some how to's please
