SOG Sativa Question

Is it possible to SOG pure sativas (Arjan's Super Silver Haze, C99, Jack Herer, ect.) in a space that only allows 25in of vertical grow room? I am looking into getting a grow box, but the height is 35in, so if you include a couple inches for the 400w HPS and the hydro set up, that should only leave me with about 2 ft of vertical grow room, but I wanna grow out some pure sativas. Is this realistic?

I'd say it isn't a great idea.

I mean, for starters, you'd want some clearence between the plant and the light unless you're planning on using a cooltube. That shit gets hot.

I've never grown a full sativa but I've heard that even if you flower from clone they can still get to a few feet.

I grow WW (indica dominant) from about 5 - 6" clone and they get to over 18" a peice.

The grow box has a very powerful heat exhaust fan right above the 400w HPS light. Do you think that that would cut down on a lot of the heat so the plants can get a little closer to it?

Like I said, unless you're using a cooltube I don't think it would be plausable.

A cooltube cools the lamp with air drawn from outside the grow space, and exhausts to outside the grow space. The air cooling the lamp does not mix with the air in the grow space and therefore doesn't make it hot, you can therefore grow right up to the cool tube without damaging your plants.

Without a cool tube, even if you have a powerfull exhaust, you'll still need about 12 - 18" clearence (AT LEAST), otherwise your plants will get burned.

Try it, set up the light and exhaust and see how close you can comfortably hold your hand to the lamp. If it's too hot for your hand it'll be too hot for a plant.

I use a 400 hps without a cool tube and have to keep the bottom of the light 16"-18" above the top of the canopy in order to not burn the tops. An Indica dominant cross is more suitable for SOG growing.

Alright, thanks a lot guys! I think I'll probably just end up making my own grow box that is suitable enough to grow sativas (which are some of my favorites!), and I'll probably get a cool tube just to be safe. Thanks for the advice!
