Soil Mixture Suggestions?

I'm a bit of a newbie only done a couple grows. I'm looking for an intermediate grower who can tell me what kind of soil mixture they use and what is so good about it. I've been using Foxfarm organic soil with 25% perlite. I'm just looking for some improvements on my next grows. Thanks for any help

hey there, my dad gave me this "recipe" that's been working for him for years upon years, and so far its working great for me as well:

Soil Mixture:
5 pts organic top soil
5 pts pearlite
2 parts composted manure
1/2 pt dolomite lime
1 pt kelp meal


(multiply parts by however much soil you have, for example i had 4 buckets of soil so I adjusted accordingly)

if you go to the organic thread Subcool has a supersoil recipe, go to that thread for ideas its very useful, also bat guano and worm castings work great for me

intermediate seems a good description for my current status, have about 9 good(mostly) grows under the belt

i use MG Organic Garden as the base, it is very easy to find locally and can work very well, and is very cheap
one thing it needs is pasteurization, that's heating to 180 degrees, kills the fungus gnats that this soil gets a bad rap for(justifiably, very gnat infested)
but pasteurize, and they're history
loosened with 12% perlite, it does need some loosening
lastly add 1 tbsp of dolomite and 1 tbsp of MG Organic bone meal(6-9-0) per gallon of soil
every strain grown so far seems to have taken to this mix very nicely

sub cools super soil is every thing you need to grow top quality meds. just add water through the whole grow.


8 large bags of high quality organic potting soil with coco and Mycorrhizae
25-50 lbs. of organic worm castings
5 lbs. of Blood meal 12-0-0
5 lbs. Bat guano 0-5-0
5 lbs. Fish Bone Meal 3-16-0
¾ cup Epsom salt
1 cup Sweet lime (Dolomite)
½ cup Azomite ( Trace element)
2 Tbs. powdered Humic acid
*** If using an RO system add in 1/2 cup powdered Cal/mag


this rich mixture of soil is only used in the bottom 1/2 of the grow pot, and regular potting soil placed on the top 1/2 as to not burn the plants. This done in 7 gallon pots, and plants allowed to veg for 2 months will produce heavly under 1000w lights.

I guess I should have mentioned I'm an amateur grower with only 2 150W HPS lights not looking for too complicated of a mixture. I'm just looking for a FEW things to add to my Foxfarm organic soil and perlite mixture.
