Soil Mixtures and pots

thought id make a thread to share our soil mixes for the plants and what pots we use for veg and flower.
list ingredients and prices if you can.

Good helpful thread, man! I use Roots Organic Soil, and that is all I use. I used to do a coco blend with the Roots, but Roots started putting coco in their mixture. As for pots, I usually run the 3 to 5 gallon square black plastics, but I am running an experiment this go around with the 3 gallong square black plastic, the 3 gallon round aerated plastic container (holes all around it) and a 3 gallon smart pot. My experiment is to let me see if there is any true advantage to one of the pots or not......I will let you know the results!

I'm a soil mixer myself and this run I'm doing super soil type recipe. I can't put a price on it because my local garden store gives me lots of free stuff to use and give out to the community,I also get a nice discount at my clubs garden shop. I use harvest moon or roots for a base medium and add amendments. If I'm growing apical plants I use #10 smartpots we make from pond lining you can buy at pond stores,if they are scrogg plants I put them in large 20gallon totes for extra root growth needed to fill in a nice scrog. Glad to see some grow talk in here.

I run botanicare for soil and coco, and Roots Organics HPK and other products from Roots used intermittently, with Cal Mag of course. I use the Trinity, Extreme Serene, NP2, and Ancient Amber as the other products from Roots.

I must say, I am impressed with your initiative here, McPurp! Thanks for trying hard to make this a positive place, your efforts do not go unnoticed!

As for the Jeff thing.....I will put that in the general chat section that Zild started today......so as to keep myself on point, and following my own rules.

ok got a lil to buzzed last night so here we go.

i like to use black golds coco mix and black golds regular organic soil. they are both very cheap and good quality. its about 10 bucks here for a 2.5 cubic yard bag of it. they are both OMRI listed organic. i then add about 25-35 percent perlite and thats it for the soil, i think it needs more done, i would on my next grow like to add some worm castings or some sort of high N manure and also add some bone meal. amd alon in the future i will be using Roots oregonisms for beneficial fungi and micro orgenoism. the soil mix is cheap and effective. the soils alone i only had to feed one or 2 times in veg.
I would like to do the super soil but it seems a bit on the spendy side to me still, although i know it works great.

as for pots i like to use the black plastic square pots ( .25 cents new) and they are 1.7 liters. for flower i like to use 3-5 gallon pots, i think 5 is a bit big for my needs and 3 is a lil small, i would like to use a 4 gal if they made them these pots were free as the hydro store gives away theri 5 gal buckets and the 3 gal round pots are 1.50 each new. i would like to use all square pots though as it makes more of your room. i ran flora nova veg and bloom ( i know synthetic) but i was not interested into organics at the time and know all i will ever do is organics except on certain house plants.

Worm poop is always a great thing to add McPurp! I was put in touch with a worm castings expert by a friend and they both relayed a lot of good info on the subject. I will add that not all worm castings are of high quality so do some research. You could start a few worm farms at your house if you have a little space. The investment is low and not only with proper feeding can you have quality worm shit but you will also have worm tea which is an amazing foliage spray and soil drench for plants. If you do add worm castings make 10% of your medium worm castings anything higher is a waste

I'm using Dr. Earths POTting Soil right now and I'm not sure I like it. Previously I was mixing my own with great results. I have a worm bin for a nice supply of castings.

Worm bins are super easy to make and maintain.

i was going to get a worm bin but then i figure if i do a compost pile theri will be enough in theri and enough poo mixed in already so i decided not to get one.

also sea weed works great to add to soil as well if it has washed and powdered or composted. when i go to the coast i am going to pick up alot off the beach and then make some kelp tea for foiler spray and to sell off, as well as a high N compost tea along with some new stuff i will be doing very soon

Has anyone ever used Llama doodles (manure) for soil development, or for mary jane or vegetables? I have not used it yet for my ladies, but on my tomatoes......AWESOME. I highly recommend trying some in your garden, and they get packed with worm castings! It ends up being a great fertilizer that is lower in nitrogen, so very little burn associated with it. My mom has a llama ranch in Northern California, and she brings llama doodles up with her quite a bit.

I think I might do a little experiment next time she brings some. I have been composting for quite some time, but I never use it on my little ladies, for fear of insects that may come from outside. I have always been ultra careful about that. I might just run an extra tent next year to run the experiment....

Never used llama shit but chicken,goat,and EMU shit go into my compost tumbler. All are good sources of N

ive never used lama shit either but im sure its good, i think the best manure available is chicken shit though.
in the link above is some chart as to levels of nutrients in the shit. it doesnt list lama though

Be very careful with chicken shit,its hot and will burn plants if directly applied. It must be aged(old loafs) or composted...just a heads up

i know it is very hot. i use it on my veggies and i use fresh but dried as a top dressing as well as making teas with it to feed the plants. ive never had any thing burn with any type of animal manure. i have found it is hard to burn plants with organics that are truely organic, but i know it can be done

good for 2-3 (or more weeks) until you need to fertilize. i often recycle the soil from harvested plants to use for starting clones or small veg plants.

I used to use Black Gold - Lilly Label, with if I remember right had a real real high percentage of worm castings. Great stuff
