Soil question outdoors

Hello all. I am going to be putting 5 large plants in the ground in the next week or 2. Where I grow outside the soil isn't very great. In the past I've dug a hole and added dirt with decent results but the plants always end up locking out half way through flower. Should I just dig my holes bigger and add more dirt or line the holes with plastic to stop the roots from reaching out into the sandy nasty soil?

That really isn't a bad idea placing thick plastic in the hole. Just make sure it's really deep.
When you go to add your soil I would add a lot of worm castings and bat guano to your soil as you place it in the hole.
I make my own soil and I use a lot of that stuff

If you had problems in the past i would try mounding up soil 2 ft of higher and then digging a shallow hole in that. filling it completely with premium soil mix.

Do not line a hole. Bad idea. Just dig bigger grow holes or trenches but drainage is key in the ground or in containers. Feed cal mag regularly from the start and the roots will develop.

I would not not line the hole. Roots need oxygen and if you get a decent amount of rain you could drown them. That would be like sticking them in a bucket with no drain holes.
Why not just grow above ground. Fabric pots are not that expensive anymore.

You are waiting a long time to plant. Flowering is going to start in aug. That only leaves a few weeks. Would be better to get them planted as soon as possible.

The only reason I think about planting in the ground is because big pots can be tall, adding height to already huge plants.
Harvest gets rough...
Seeing as how you're planting pretty late, might as well do pots

you can dig a big hole and fill with good soil or mix, or amend soil and use lots of compost
