Soil questions

hey, couple questions

I'm trying to find a nice cheap soil to use, maybe from home depot/lowes. premade or combination is fine, somethign without wood chips. Does anyone know any?
Would I be ok just buying a big bags of "Top Soil, peat moss, perlite" from homedepot?

As far as base soils, it seems like most premade soils you can buy contain fertilizers that.. "feed up to 6 months" or whatever.
I was wondering how these included ferts effect feeding the plant normally.
I have jacks classic allpurp/bloom which I plan to use.. but when should I start using them if the soil already has nutes.

I'm currently using Foxfarm happy frog, which seems like a really good mix, but its so expensive at 24.99 a bag.
How do the organic nutes in this effect how I should be feeding them?

home depot carries promix pick up a bail of that and some extra perlite and your set on soil

my last grow I used Miracle Gro Orchid Mix, and it did awesome. its got some wood in it but not much. I grew all the way through flowering without nutes, adding only molasses to my water for flowering, and my plant looked great all the way through!!! people bash MG soil, but I think it does the job. my plant yielded about 3/4 oz or so, but I am using cfl, and I didn't have as much light as I would have wanted. good luck!

I've used promix before, and it does sound good.. does this look right? (not avail at homedepot right now)

I went to my local greenhouse and asked for a bag of their house soil. Its what they use on everything so it wasn't filled with crap nutes. I believe its Ball brand. I'm a newbie and haven't had problems with it.

I'm really happy with the MG moisture control with about 40% Perlite mixed in.

I'm a noob,but I have always been told pro mix is good.so is sunshine number 4
on my dirt grow I used sunshine 4

but now I'm looking at voila black magic,organic topsoil
then just mix in some perlite and maybe a little sand.

edit-voila black magic might only be available in Canada

i am new to here but have grown out doors for years, im and infant when it comes to indoors. Just wanted to give my 2 cents on MG. Ive used MG on many grows always worked great. Then one year I grew grandaddy, m&m, and jacky white. the grandaddy I had grown many times loved the MG. It burnt the hell out of my M&M and Jacky White. So what im getting at is MG works good with some strains and will nearly kill others. I know use a soild with little or no nuts. that way i know just what my babies are getting.

All i use is promix,love it never had any problems with it, no nutes just lil lime keeps my ph perfect.. but no hydro stores around either,so its pro mix or mg. Not that im bashing mg . Just started 7 indica seeds going grow them with all mg products veg and bloom booster. Experiment sort of, been feeding mg in pro mix gettin ready now go get mg organic choice to transplant

Same brand i use never had a problem with it.

I just harvested 1/3 of my very first grow, and I made my own soil with great results. It was way cheaper, totally organic and despite the extra work, it was totally fulfilling. The ingredients of Fox Farm and Roots Organics aren't that difficult to replicate. They're really just recipes for super soil "lite." I was really inspired by contributions about LC's Soilless Mix if you search for that here. Also just ran across a post by Sir Stickybud called "Sir Sticky's base mix for supersoil." The base mix is the equivalent of Roots organics or FF and costs a fraction of the amount to make it on your own (though you have to let it cure for at least a month).
