At least use soiless MG or standard MG potting soil. Your stuff holds too much water, and the nutes in it will play hell with your plants! MG also has bugs in the dirt! I know, I am also growing in MG potting soil and while it works, it's a constant struggle with the gnats. (seems when MG bags their soil they're in egg form, during truck shipment to stores they hatch. by the time you buy it, it's infested with bugs! normally you'd water every 3-4 days, I am not sure with that stuff. and what kind of ferts or nutes are in it, too? you want to be able to adjust that yourself instead of relying on (unpredictible) stuff in the dirt supposedly on time-release.

Go for it. It's not soil, it's compost (edit, I thought it was Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil at first). Only prob with that is it probably has too many nutes. Compost is basically broken down horse and chicken manure (among other things) and is rich in nutrients. It's excellent stuff for plants actually, but it might be too strong for seedlings/young plants.

But it'll most likely work. Supplement it with perlite or pebbles (if you get them from outside, make sure you wash them good), or anything else you have, if you're afraid of overwatering. Many people add 'soil moist' to their plain soil to make it hold more water, so don't worry about it.

Water the plant, and don't water again until it starts drooping. When it does, water again and after an hour the plant will spring back to life. If you go look at time lapse videos of plants growing on YouTube, you'll see that the plant grows and then wilts, before suddenly growing again. It almost looks like it's taking a breath.

Anyway, just saying.. that over watering isn't much of a problem if you pay attention to the plant.

The nutrients *might* be a problem because you'll have less control over them, but since it's your first grow, I doubt you're going to be adjusting nutes to the T anyway. If you can, then I recommend returning it and getting something else - they *must* have soil.. potting soil. Even Walgreens carries potting soil for $2. If you can't or don't feel like changing it, then use it.

Now go grow! :blsmoke:
