soiless mix? I grow in lava rock and clay pea gravel. I've broken up larger pieces of lava rock for propane barbecues to grow in. soiless mix? If you ask the hydro shop guy for lava rock and/or clay pea gravel they will know what you are looking for.

Shit 5 parts peat moss or coco fiber. To 5 parts perlite. Then add 2 cups of compost. I got mine from Home depot. Its called ECO Compost. That is hella universal its ph is 6.5 even. If plants will go into flowering once potted use composted steer manure. If they are justed rooted clones use only 1 part compost so it isnt to rich. I dig this mix very much because ive only used water on half the plants and there beautiful. The pic show has been feed Iguana Juice Bloom and mollasess. This is the Presidential Kush. Only 4 weeks into onset.

I have gotten good results from cow patties picked up from the cow feild. I found that if properly prepared seedlings love it.

Soiless mix = Promix or Sunshine . Very common.

soilless means no diirt. Coco or peat or perlite. and bagged soil makes it dirt not soiless. I create my own soilless with the recipe above. Since peat and perlite and the main its soilless plants react almost similar as to hydro especially when used with a wick system. Also if not trying to mix there are many pre bagged products out there i recomend sunshine #4 not from personal use but from many experts on this site and more. Beside Jorge cerventes recomends it and thats enough for me. Or there is promix or many others. I noticed roots organic has an all coco fiber mix tho might be good.

SUNSHINE #4. its 100% soilless, complete peatmoss and perlite, great drainage, dont need to add anything into it. Promix is good too, im just partial, i like sunshines drainage better. they also have an organic version-works well.

If you are doing hydro and are looking for a soilless mix, i would suggest just using rockwool, hydroton, or coco husks, but make sure you rinse them well or soak them in a PH solution to condition them.

With sunshine, I dump it into a clean bin (i use a cooler) mix nutes in water, check pH and dump it into the bin and saturate the soil. pot the plant, and water it a little more.

Best combo for newbs IMO is SS#4 or Promix with foxfarm nutes- on seeds or clones 1/2tsp GROW Big and 1TBS of Big Bloom per gallon -saturate soil well!!! keep that feeding till they are a about 6-8" then bump it to the normal feeding, but dont overdo it.

Here's my current mix:
150L Canna Coco
50L Chunky Perlite
4lbs GH Rare Earth (silica and humic supplement)
8 oz. Humboldt Nutrients MycoMaximum
1lbs Crushed Oyster Shell

Treat with:
Canna Rhizotonic
Humbodlt Nutrients Mayan Microzym

The Canna Coco is the highest quality pre-charged coco available on the market. The chunky perlite at <25% of the mix provides very high levels of aeration throughout the media allowing for waterings as frequently as 3 times per day. I find the more you can feed your coco the better they do. The GH Rare Earth creates a beneficial environment for the biologicals with the presence of humic acids. The silica will be broken down and absorbed over time allowing for thick stems and healthy plants. The MycoMaximum creates a healthy microbial population for breaking down salts and aiding in absorption (it is important to keep pH levels no lower than 5.6 to keep them healthy). The Oyster Shells provide calcium and a variety of other micro-nutrients throughout the entire grow.

I supplement this mix with a combination of Canna Coco A+B, PK 13/14, and quite a bit of the Humboldt Nutrients line of additives.

Good luck to you!

I like the pro-mix... the ultimate organic mix from them is really good, it has mycrorise and sea compost added.

Pro mix you can water 1-3 days depending on the size of the pot.
This is good if you cannot water everyday, because in coco you will most likeyl water till runoff everyday.
So if you dont like vacuuming water or have a DTW i would recommend promix.
BTW promix retains water and coco does not.
Coco should be mixed with perlite.
You will see faster growth in coco and you can water 3+ times a day if you want.
You cannot over water coco, however you can over water promix.
Best advice I can give form using both.

Coco coir definitely does retain water, although there are actually different grades of coir (fiber, chips and pith). Coir fibers wont hold water like the chips or pith do.

Many bagged potting 'soils' are not really truly soils at all. Most are actually closer to being soil-less mixes. Often they are sphagnum peat-based (may also contain coir), and have perlite with either forest humus, compost or earthworm castings (to make them potting soils).

One of the only potting soils which actually contains soil, that I know of, is Ocean Forest as it has sandy loam.
