solar pannels in grow room

would this idea work?, say you run 400whps, could you get a few solar panels hook them up, put them on one of the walls so your 400whps puts off enough light to excite the solar panels which then produce enough energy to keep the light going, and to start it off you run a small battery and the hps just keeps charging up the batt, converts dc to ac, then runs your setup

is this idea possible?

well while in theory your idea is nice

solar panels are just not quite up to the task of anything just yet

1 square meter of solar panels out in the desert produces about 1 watt

they are only around 27% percent effecient (energy produced over the energy actually hitting the panel)

so its not a very good idea imo unless you got a SHIT load of solar panels

but a 400w hps would produce less power than those panels chilling out in the desert

hmmm, but it would work, if i got a shitload of little solar panels and wired them to a fan blowing directly on the lightbulb, so when the light comes on it generates the power through the usb to power a few small cpu fans and keep air moving

i mean there are tons of those little lights that have solar panels on the top, i imagine u can just wire them all together

We've been looking at Sterling engine research, it's a heat exchange motor that can be run a variety of ways. The problem is finding a Sterling engine capable of producing anything other than amusement levels of power on the open market.
