Has any used these bulbs or have any experience with them. They contain two simultaneously operating arc tubes, a HPS (600 Watt) and a Metal Halide (400 Watt). Any input appreciated. This is from the manufacturer:

SOLARMAX "ONE" 1000 Watt Lamp
Lamp manufacturer's have pursued the ideal spectral output for plant growth for years. The biggest advancements made in HID sources for plant growth was to enhance the inherent deficiencies of either HPS (not enough blue) or MH (not enough orange / red). While these specialized lamps are much better than standard "commodity" lamps, the fact is that neither technology can be altered enough to be truly optimum for plant growth. Most light sources are designed to illuminate areas for visual tasks for humans.

Plant growth required a broad spectrum of light energy to initiate complex reactions. The SOLARMAX "ONE" is the finest HID lamp that combines both enhanced Metal Halide and Super High Pressure Sodium technologies to achieve strong peaks for both vegetative growth and flowering.

The result is "ONE" lamp with two simultaneous operating arc tubes that are optimized to operate on an S52 1000 HPS ballast, SOLARMAX "ONE" the best of both technologies.

100,000 lumens of specifically targeted output with a correlated color temperature of 2850 deg. Kelvin.

Product: HPST 1000W Super
Ballast: HPS Ballast S5
Lamp Jacket: T23
Overall Length: 390mm - 15.6"
Color Temp Deg. K: 2850

Life Hours: 24000

Would anyone considering using these? Have you used them? What tyoe of results?

Also I was looking into these.
Eye Hortilux Super Blue 1000W Dual Arc Bulb
The EYE SUPER BLUE light bulb features the extraordinary power of Super HPS and the balanced spectrum of Hortilux Blue in one bulb! The benefits of Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium together: vigorous growth, accelerated development, and hearty flowering! The lamp’s unmatched energy spectrum provides the optimum light for plant growth through the entire growth cycle. This 1000W Super Blue bulb produces 110,000 initial lumens.

The LU1000MH/HTL/EN lamp is in an E25 jacket, which will conveniently fit in all 1000-Watt fixtures. This lamp operates on standard ANSI S52 ballast, for use on 1000-Watt High Pressure Sodium ballast systems.

The HORTILUX™ Super Blue lamp is environmentally friendly in that it passes EPA, TCLP test criteria as non hazardous waste. The LU1000MH/HTL/EN lamps are completely lead free and contain less mercury than standard HPS lamps.

For the expense I just want to see the 600watt hps and 400halide combo (thats how its described) next to a 1000 watt hps for flowering (also about 30-50000 more lumens in a conventional 1000)

The side by side would be illuminating but I dont know if it will result in either higher quality buds or denser growth.

Better yet i would like to know why it would be better than a MH bulb for veg & an HPS for flower. They make switchable ballasts & over the long term using 2 different bulbs for veg & flower will not cost any extra. So why not use a switchable ballast w/ both bulbs?

I'm not asking about using these for seperate growth stages. I'm well aware of switchable ballasts. I would be considering this bulb strictly for flowering because the clones I get are already vegged. They will be between 12-18" tall and ready to go right into flowering. I want to know if anyone has used them in flowering and experienced the increased yields the manufacturers claim.

Here is what I my understanding of these bulbs are, both the dual arc bulbs and the newer "Super HPS" bulbs are just like a regular HPS bulb providing most of their light in the red spectrum, which we know is best for flowering, but in addition to the red spectrum light they also put out light in the blue spectrum. The idea is to achieve a balanced spectral output during all growing stage, something closer to natural light I assume.

Hortilux HPS Lamps
Hortilux HPS grow lamps produce up to 10% higher lumens and up to 36% more blue-violet spectrum than standard HPS for maximum yield during the budding and flowering growth stages.

Iwasaki Hortilux HPS Lamps
  • Grow light systems that utilize Iwasaki Super HPS lamps provide greater light intensity and spectral energy designed for higher yields and to grow a wider range of plants.
  • Super HPS systems are recommended for use during the budding and flowering stages to promote higher yields and enhance vegetative growth that is deficient in standard HPS systems.
All of the bulbs I have seen like this claim increased yield. I just wondered if anyone has first hand knowledge of this.

cant find it on the net...
the point of it is to have both bulbs on during flowering.
it makes your buds thicker. to me thats a better bud.the last batch i had was great but too small.
so this would work for me. plus i need a new bulb.

Found Dual Arc Bulbs on EBAY for $40 each! Bought two, got them today and they work great. They are not solarmax, but a britemore X-Brite LU1000 with a 400w MH Arc and a 600w HPS Arc. They run on HPS ballasts.

My opinion, they have less green than the Sunmaster Warm Deluxe 1000w MH's they are replacing, however much more red and blue. This could be an interesting run with my Kush strain this time. :D

Will dual arc bulbs work on digital ballasts? Mine (which *just* arrived) are digital without a switch and I'm not sure the dual arc would work?

Yes they will work, have a PlantMax 1000 on a Lumitech digi ballast, and the thing is really doing great. No noise, just light.:)

+rep for that. I came on here specifically to find out about these eBay ones. $40 shipped beats $180 for the Solarmax or Ushio.

I dont have much experience with light bulbs and the technical part to them. But i have experimented with both and heres what i found. I have a mh in my cloning cabinet on a 18/6 and a hps in my flowering cabinet on a 12/12. I have tried running just mh and just hps and surprisingly I did get the best yield with the both combination. so the combination of both lights is deffinatly a two thumbs up for me. however i never tried running them at the same time. I always thought to keep them seperated bc at different points in growth the plants use different rays of light. then it gets into the technical bs and i get lost but whatever... All I know is that during veg the plant uses much more blue light and during flowering it uses much more red light... My next batch though i Am going to try the combination of the two. i hope my results from my personal experience find u well!
