From what i read;

Soma's Organic soil----http://www.scribd.com/doc/54437326/Organic-Marijuana-Soma-Style-2005

50L worm castings
3 x 50L black peat
50L Organic potting soil
3 x 50L bags of Bio Bizz Light-mix
2KG Guano Kalong
2kg DCM organic fertilizer 7-6-12+4Mgo
1/3 of a 30L bag of perlite (10L)
2KGs Maerl (sea chalk for PH)

Subcool's Organic soil:

  • 8 large bags of high quality organic potting soil with coco and Mycorrhizae
25-50 lbs. of organic worm castings
5 lbs. of Blood meal 12-0-0
    5 lbs. Bat guano 0-5-0
5 lbs. Fish Bone Meal 3-16-0
    ¾ cup Epsom salt
    1 cup Sweet lime (Dolomite)
½ cup Azomite ( Trace element)
    2 Tbs. powdered Humic acid
*** If using an RO system add in 1/2 cup powdered Cal/mag

-----------------------------
Subcool's seems far more organic and natural than somas but i havnt used either so i cant speak from Personal Experience.

I use a Soma style raised bed with very good results. Have never experiment with his soil mix, it does not sound very appealing and Sub's recipe or variations on the Sub theme seems to produce superior results.

Some of the ingredients soma uses, you can't get in the U.S. Like kalong. Even the canna bag soil he recommends.. They can't pass customs due to the bacteria in them.

I used to do the soma beds. They work great. But clean up after chop is a major bitch.

I do my own version of super soil. Couldn't afford everything at once. But I finally have had subs recipe cooking for the last couple weeks except I substitute mexican bat guano for blood meal. I also use compost instead of humic acid. The end result of composting is humic acid. Imo good compost speeds up cooking. Bugs hate compost too.

P.s. Soma quit doing the beds and soil years ago. He is all about deep water culture.

Wow, after writing the book, Soma goes to DWC! Guess everybody changes with the times. The one thing that hasn't changed is the high price of Soma's seeds. I had good results from his RockBud many years ago, but seems he's just not competitive anymore. I'll take TGA packs at $75 from HD anyday over Soma's seeds.
