The post-game analysis ...
Bud 1: Blue Wreck
600 milligrams
12 days: Dec 12-21
When I received the package, I decided that I was going to smoke exclusively these buds in order, even though in the interim I lucked into some trim that I turned into smudge (my solvent extract). I began with the Blue Wreck through my somewhat vulgar glass bong, Big Red. Dayum, but I had forgotten how harsh weed is! Another difference from smudge is that with the smudge, i can put a 10-15mg dab on a screen and be torqued to spec after the one hit.
With weed however, the burning vegetation made for such a sharp smoky hit that I could only manage smaller tokes, so that it took 3-6 bong hits to reach cruising altitude.
I crushed the bud into a coarse powder and began imbibing little bite-sized portions of prairie fire.
This bud lasted me a full nine days. The flavor was rather good, once I learned to discount the acrid note of pyrolyzed cellulose. The high was quite nice. It had a more sativa-esque propensity to make me think weird thoughts and hear weird subtle things. It also made watching old episodes of Top Gear epically funny. i swear those guys write some of their jokes in green.
Bud 2: Headband
960 milligrams
19 days: Dec 22-Jan 10
Who would have guessed that this one would be the duration king? It was a fairly fluffy bud, with a delightfully crushable, almost spongy arrangement. The flavor was the big win here - a rich, caramelly flavor filled my mouth with each hit. It put me in mind of the old Sugar Daddy candy pops ... which of course did me no favors in going for a wee munchable. The high was odd ime: it seemed to take some smoking to even get to a proper buzz, and from there the high took on a strangely blocky, Mondrian-fractured quality. So while it was certainly good strong bud, the kind of high didn't do me.
Bud 3: Blue Dream
1042 milligrams
18 days: Jan 11-28
OK just finished this one, and I am feeling moderately moderated. I wonder if the smaller number of days had to do with the good-sized bit of twig that stitched this conspicuously frosty botanical specimen together. Here too the flavor was just behind that of the Headband, and the high was almost as scenic as that of the Blue Wreck. The smoke tasted like crème brûlée (do THAT torqued, hah!); pretty awesome. Went brilliantly with shrimp&veg Tempura and Black Star Lager. The buzz was almost as solid as the Blue Wreck's, but there was still some of that "15 puzzle" blockiness. Did someone say pound cake and pinot grigio??
