we are talking about two different things on 2 different issues here bro...

question: what does regular cfls having electronics built in to them have to do with a friend repeatedly burning out replacement hps bulbs in an unballasted mougul socket?
In responding to these I was kinda defending my... lack of clarity.

Just from my experience...At my Home Depot...

That being said...I just recalled, the same friend told me he found a 300w eq self ballasted in a grocery store (he lives in KC) and it has a medium base and he is currently using it (I believe) to winter some tree indoors with a high ceiling.
I believe this is a 65watter, like mine in the pics, but in the user friendly medium base and self ballast. I assume your local hardware has these? HD and Lowes in SD do not.

Hope that cleared up the confusion...If you can find the >42w bulbs I would try them as long as the price is >~$15 USD. If not smaller bulbs with splitters (Y adapters, use two to make 3 sockets) are more economical.

Here I thought I was understanding the bulbs and agreeing with you not only that diff. HD's have diff stuff and in the value, rather than attacking you...If it seemed the latter, I apologize.

not trying to have a pissing match with you... but i guess not all home depots carry the same stuff. this is a 68 watt, self ballasted, 300 watt equivalent, 2700K CFL that will work in any standard outlet.
it is 4.1 inches in diameter and 10 inches tall. It is at my home depot, but not on the thier web site. this is 14.99 at Home Depot - see pic attached
See above

if you want to give advise thats fine, but dont say that somebodey elses advice is wrong just becuase you arent familar with it.

like you, i like to just offer advice from my own experience. but you dont have to increase your credibility by attacking mine
I wish to do neither. Thank you for the pics clearing up my confusion...peace dude.

peezy 315- sorry you thread got hijacked.

haydukes- all i did was give the thread starter 2 possible light solutions. you then quoted me and posted that the CFL i suggested didnt exist in the size and spectrum that i said it does and that i was referring to an unballasted light. you then went on and on about how building an HPS as i suggested was not feasable. if you dont know something, ask. dont just assume some one else is wrong just because you arent familar with it. remember- you quoted me and stated the info i gave was inaccurate (which it clearly is not), i didnt quote you or initiate contact with you.

My response was pictures of the exact cfl you said didnt exist ( self ballasted, 2700K spectrum, from home depot, i might add), and pictures of a DIY HPS light that was built for $25.00 along with possible places to get the required components.

now your acting all cool as if i was out of line? your ego and need to prove someone else wrong (even when you are wrong) has ruined this poor guys thread.
way to go!!!

sorry again peezy!

to keep it really simple... plants need 6500K spectrum to grow vegitatively, usually on a 24 hour on 0r 18 on and 6 off cycle. MH lights are for vegetative growth. cfls come in a variety of colors, 2700K 3000K 5000K 5500K and 6500K (there may be more as well).
plants need 2100K to 2700K to bud or flower, you NEED this spectrum to grow buds, this means a bunch of 2700K CFL's, or a HPS light to get this spectrum.
2700K = flowering or budding on a 12/12 light cycle
6500K (5500K in a pinch) are good for vegging on a 24 hr or 18/6 light cycle
in my opinion 3000 and 5000K are useless

do you know the spectrum of the cfl's? it should be printed on the package and sometimes on the base of the bulb, if not just look at the light is it orange or white? when i say orange i mean like sunrise or parking lot lights. its it orange you have the correct cfl's. if its white light its the wrong spectrum. the MH light arent good for budding by them selves. if you are 12/12 you will get bud under almost any light, but id its the wrong spectrum the buds will be very tiny, very light and very fluffy. you can get a 4 pack of 2700K bulds on sale at most hardware stores, walmart, target, home depot, lowes, kmart really cheap, some times under 10 bucks.

just make sure you have 2700K lights and you should be all set

missed the yeild and potency part-

with your current lights, minimal at best, very low yield and there is no way to tell the potency because the strain is unknown but it will be worse than the bag you got it from

with several cfl's in the 2700K spectrum you will have a better yield, the buds will small, fluffy and spread apart from each other, the more 2700K bulbs you add the better your yield will be

with a HPS you will get the best yield you can get indoors, thick, large dense buds (potency will improve as lighting improves as well)
