Also get a return visit from a pissed off carp sometimes. And other guys who have been in such situations - the other guy can play those same tricks. Plus if it's kids watch for legal action by authorities if they end up fucked up or infected. Grow where they don't go. Ugly ass places where mosquitoes rule but dry ground is available high. Swamps and grow in buckets hung in trees. Desert coulees and arroyos above flash flood stage but where the small flash floods do leave pockets of water and place a cotton rope in an old garden hose from the lowest point to your hole. Cover with a lot of rocks, not frigging wood or other stuff that floats away, to secure the line and hide it at the same time. Nobody is going to give a partially buried piece of old garden hose a second look. From experience. The weeds that bloom after summer rain are great cover. Some fishing line, several dozen well placed treble hooks and a couple of new plants for bait can catch an interesting fish.
Geological Survey maps are fantastic as they show terrain features and profiles and elevations. Use those to locate coordinates for Google Maps or GPS.
One last modern hint. Go to geocaching web sites and search your chosen spots. If a geocache shows anywhere near it then forget that spot.
