Something's Happening in this Hydroponic Setup... S.O.S

You guys are missing it. He said 15% nutes so I'm gonna assume that's a weak mixture and is fine. His ph fluctuates like crazy, always rising. That's indicative of a pathogen taking over the water. (Not pythium yet, so don't tell me ph should be dropping!!)

he also said his water is cooler now. Not warm to the touch anymore. Too bad! The bug is already in there! Roots are to blame here why does no one else see this?? Blind leading the blind on this site whenever it comes to dwc I swear!

fix: either look into beneficial microbes or running a sterile res. everything else you're doing seems fine.
I run 35% h202 in all my hydro setups never had an issue with roots I assumed everyone especially dwc used it.

BINGO! Whomever guessed my roots were being infected with a brownish slim is 100% right. After work tonight I opened my reservoir to nothing but a algae type substance attaching itself to everything! I looked at the roots of my worst plant and this brown slim was all over the roots.

So tonight I ended up taking my reservoir apart and cleaning the crap out of it. Scrubbed it down completely!

I had 3 gallons of water I had sitting out ready that I mixed with ONLY root booster (10ml). Only 1/3 the amount they recommend! The water before mixing was reading a PH of 8.0 with a PPM of 127. AFTER mixing in the 10ml of root booster and a couple pinches of Pond-Zyme my PH was reading at 5.8 with a PPM of 189. I am ready to see what happens next. Hopefully my water doesn't shoot up to 7.5+ tomorrow.

The Pond-Zyme I got is recommend by other growers as a good solution to use and break down and eat all the algae. I am RELIEVED that a Petco was open and had it tonight.

I hope this sludge is gone soon! Will keep this thread updated if everything works out ok!

See the problem with adding root booster is that it's probably a type of sugar and this can end up having adversed effects if the pathogens eat it first. It's like feeding the bad guys.

why are you thinking you need root booster?

I do not think that pond zyme is going to do anything to kill the slime. From what I understand zymes are for breaking down dead roots.

Hey Strax, pondzyme is the product name. It contains beneficial bacteria as well as enzymes for breaking down matter. From the testimonials on here I'd bet it will work. (Just not willing to bet MY grow on it - which is why I'm still making tea every week)

I use Hygrozyme, I have used it for almost a year. I will buy pondzyme next time to save money.

I think that a zyme is a great idea in DWC.

I DO NOT think that any zyme will KILL slime. It will eat dead slime.

KILL the slime with H2O2, clean everything with H2O2, wash your roots with H2O2 if they are slimey.

THEN use the Pondzyme or Cannazyme or Hygrozyme or what ever.

I figured instead of dropping all nutrients I would just add a TINY amount of root booster since they're roots barely made it out of the netting before this slim started attacking them.

Lol I will let everyone know if I see any improvements in the little guys.

How long will it roughly take for the enzymes to break down the algae that was starting to form on the roots?

Strax a zyme will indeed exacerbate a slime problem. After all, it's nicknamed hygroslime for a reason! But research pondzyme. It contains bennies aswell as enzymes.

So we are agreeing. h2o2 to disinfect roots (that are still alive - trash rotten ones) then rinse roots in tap water and make a new batch of just water and pondzyme. Add 1/4 str nutes 12 hrs later.

this is my recipe to fix slime every time. Except instead of pondzyme I'll add microbe tea (essentially the same thing - apparently)

Keep us updated

You're talking about a sterile res. I'm talking about a live one. Both are options for him, live is the way to go IMO.

I did give both sterile and live scenarios. I have run a sterile res for the past three grows and I am thinking about adding a tea regiment. As well as switching to pondzyme (mostly for the money).

You have hit the nail on the head, kill then maintain

If Pondzyme by itself will maintain a reservoir then count me in. I did look around the Google to see what they said about the pondzyme and I did not find much that was not anecdotal.

at least I didn't say this ridiculous shit!

If all else fails, water without enough nutes in it will self regulate pH because of buffers.

I went ahead and added the Pond-zyme last night and after one night of a clean reservoir, and adding in a tad amount of root booster and pondzyme, I will say that after ONE day, I can see some improvements.

I zipped down my tent to a sign that I think everything is going to be ok... The littlest plant I had, which was almost all yellow (check first page of this post), has started coming back to life ALREADY. Lots more green coming back into the very leaves that were dying. IMPRESSIVE! Absolutely NO sign of algae build up on any tubes, siding, etc.

I scrubbed everything with rubbing alc last night and so far I think I have the disease beaten. PH still fluctuated up to 6.6, but I expected that since I didn't run any other water through my plants prior to re-insertion back into the reservoir so I know thats old batch water soaked up in there. Now that it's run it courses the past 24 hours, things are looking balanced.... Take a look at the pics to see improvement!

Hey man!

Dude things are great!!!!! Tonight was the first night changing the res since changing it and adding pondzyme in. The growth ALONE is something amazing, but upon flushing the res, a beautiful image came to me…. Sweet glorious roots holding each other through the struggle they just DEFEATED! These White Widows are RESILIENT!

I cannot believe they have QUADRUPLED in size since the whole disease episode. The roots and res were COVERED in that slime, this pondzyme literally saved everything and gave my plants life again. I am no doubt always adding a micro pinch to each nute batch from now on for res matinenance. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED….

Please note that these are BEFORE and AFTER photographs! Prepare to be amazed at what ONE WEEKS GROWTH looks like without disease holding it back...

First we will start off with the beautiful root system growing:

Next, lets look at a before and after photo of each plant(s):

Again, this stuff SAVED me…. and GAVE THEM REBIRTH!

Tonight I mixed a nute batch of 380 PPM, with dechlorinated water all mixed together to a beautiful 5.8PH. Will be monitoring closely but it looks like my next battle will be space lol. I'll update again soon!

Awesome! Glad I could help. Now if only I had more reps these dwc noobs would take my advice more lol

Next grow I'll be putting pond zyme to the test myself. The tea routine is getting old
