Soundproofing idea

What's happenin' -

I'm in a bit of a pickle - I have to utilize a bedroom for my 2 tents (4×8 & 3×3), and the house is small w.o a basement. I have 3 hyper fans (2) 6" (lights/exhaust) & (1) 8" (4×8 exhaust) and multiple hurricane wall mounts. Not to mention (2) 1000w ballasts, cobs/led etc. I have limited room to work with in the room (few inches on ea side), but i want to soundproof. I can't have people in the living room hearing a hurricane..

The plan -

A. Using insulated ducts
B. Using speed controlers
C. Seperating exhaust/light cooling
D. Below

Thinking about getting the foam below, lining the entire bedroom and then lining again with the welders mat - its sonewhat fireproof, made of fiberglass/acrylic, think its 4 mil. Its some heavy shit.. Also covering the tents with movers blankets, quilts or dynamat (i have a ton of this stuff laying around). Id prefer to dynamat the outside of the tent, but im afraid the tents wont hold the weight.

What are your thoughts? What would you do? How do YOU control noise? What do you tell people if they hear it and get curious?Screenshot_20181108-195310.png Screenshot_20181108-195251.png

If you own the house fill the walls with spray foam insulation. You can rent the machines or have it done. Or sound booth panels and cover the walls. Either way you still have the door too which is harder unless you change that. How many db’s is the room?

I do own the house, and I dont think the interior walls are insulated, actually - ive been in one only, and its not. That's genius! Does it actually work? It doesn't push the drywall out? Fumes?

I was debating cutting a strip along the top 12" or so of the wall, all the way around the room and dropping insulation in. But thats alot of time that i just dont have.. but i could pop a couple of holes and fill the walls.

Luckily the doors are solid, albeit their hung like shit...but ill get around to it. I plan to line the door with something, insulate around the frame, seal around the cracks.

Is there some kind of ambient noise or fq or sonething that I can just run and cancel the sound? Lol

Id love to see that muffler in action. Hitting google!

Foam egg crate material. It's what they use in music studios (on the cheap). They have inexpensive versions and top quality very high end versions.

No it’s made for walls it doesn’t expand like like the shit in a can. I use it in all my walls that I put up an since it’s made for interior wall use it won’t fumigate your house. The stuff is nice for walls already up as well and much easier than trying to effectively stuff the walls with fiberglass. I used it not so much for noise but for vibration since I built my rooms in my basement I had vibration coming up and the wife didn’t like it. But it does well for sound her sewing area is right next to my rooms and you can’t really hear anything. Hopefully this can help you.

Yeah the spray foam sounds like the way to go if you are short on space. You could also add some res bar and another layer of drywall over that or even just another layer of drywall. That would only take away 1-2” of floor space depending on the use of res bar or not. Gyproc is heavy and awkward though! Would probably be an option for someone building a room from scratch not adding to an existing room already in use.

Look up the difference between sound proofing and sound absorbing.
You can use a combination of the two.
You need mass to up the STC but sound will go the easiest route it can.
Its very hard and expensive to fully sound proof but you can certainly do a few things to help.

I did all sorts in my old room, ripped the floor up, insulated with rw80 , added mass loaded vinyl.
Took the walls down added rw80, 3 layers or sheet rock with layers of green glue for low MHz tones.
Built an airlock door.
I still wished I had done more because I could of suspended and isolated the ceiling and because I didn't sound went that direction.

You can get some professional advice from home cinema forums and studio design forums.

Cheapest and most effective way is to make your own acoustic deadening curtain... and leave a small gap between the curtain and the wall(acts as another layer of sound insulation)

Simply get some decent rubbish bags and put a sheet of sound absorbing fibreglass wool in each bag. Cable tie them all together... doesn't look pretty, but sure does the job on a tight budget and very little effort.

Just blow the walls full of insulation, either fiberglass or cellulose. You can get both at a Lowe's, cheap and easy.

Update:

Problem almost 100% solved.
Got 9 boxes of this stuff and tacked it to the walls - lined the whole room. It also helps that i have sliding blinders, blackout vinyl curtains, and cloth blackout curtains installed.

Damn near dead silent & totally lightoroof

I just need to seal off the door and get some of this stuff under the tent to control vibrations & I think it'll be golden.
