Sour Diesel Closet Grow... in flowering

Hi all! I had a thread going in Newbie Central but realized that I was turning it into a grow journal so... I'll move that over here.

I have four sour diesel females and started with one girls scout cookie that turned out to be a male. I collected his pollen and hit one branch of my tallest sour d.

I'm am currently starting week 6 since the flip. I'll post weekly or sooner if something interesting happens.

Lights: SpectraMax 516 from Sunlight Systems. Its a single unit with 2 - 150W HPS and 4 - 54W T5s.
Nothing other than a good fan in there, it gets a little warm when I close the door, so I usually don't and have no problems. Setting up a proper grow tent in the near future, this was just to get me started and back into the 'hobby'

I grow in soil and use cheap miracle grow nutes for veg. I've gotten some better stuff now that they are flowering and will replace the miracle grow soon. I found some nice organic 'garden soil' that has lots of good stuff in it (kelp meal, dolomite and limestone) but none of that time released crap.

I decided to flower early to find out who was female and get this grow moving along... I flipped at about four weeks from sprouting

First week of flower... a little supercropping going on. None of my girls are topped. Toppedless girls rock!

At ten days flowering, all have shown sex.... unfortunately the GSC broke my heart like all the boys do....

The boy showed at day 7 or 8 and the last of the girls showed at day 9 or 10 till i was sure. It could take two weeks.. so you should know soon. I got lucky and all four diesels were girls. too bad the gsc was a boy

Ten days into flowering all all have shown sex. Four girls! one boy, the GSC.

Week Four and all is well.... Been giving straight bloom formula (11-35-15) for about a week now... i used veg a couple of weeks into flowering.

Week Five and I probably had a little lockout going on....

Little bit of a nute lockout because I messed up adjusting the pH... all is much better after a thorough flush with good nutes and a dose of superthrive...

Week six starts tomorrow... this is the girls today.

So that's it so far. I'll post weekly. I expect to go 9 weeks with one and probably closer to 11 on the more sativa dominant phenos... one i'm calling 'lemon' diesel because the lemony/sativa pheno is so strong.... she's still filling in nodes and is all white pistils.

Why did they get lockout? What I do is use about 3/4 tap (sat out day or two) and 1\4 bottled water, I add in dynagrow protekt (silica) and itll raise the ph naturally. If I want to lower the ph, I just add extra bottlrd water. Makes it so you dont have to use ph up or down in the soil. I have NOT had a problem since I started doing this. I have very good tap water to begin with though.

You might need to add some calmag (I use calimagic bc it is 1-0-0 while most are 2-0-0) when using extra bottled water. Ive only used it twice in the last 8 feedings.

My tap pH is around 8 so that's a problem. When I mix with nutes its great, around 6.5 but.... when i flushed i used plain tap water that i tried to lower with vinegar. Not smart... the plants didn't like it... I pH tested it but I dont think vinegar is stable and probably dropped some more in the soil. I'm only admitting that I did that so someone else doesn't do it

Now, Instead of plain water, I just put 1/4 strength nutes everytime and add a little superthrive. they seem happier with me now... they were mad for a few days. They are nutrient whores anyway.

Cal/mag is next on my list... they dont sell it at home depot so i have to find it. Epsom salt is working but I dont like how much I have to use to get a good result.

This is my favorite grow ever... I have a nice clone mommy all picked out and vegging. Next grow I'll let them veg longer and go for a more even canopy. Sour D will be on the menu from now on!

Hi all, week 7 and all is well.

I've set a target date for 2 weeks from tomorrow on this plant... she's seems to be having a little growth spurt, tons of new pistils on the tops of all of the buds....



The other three girls are going to go for another 3 to 5 weeks, pretty much in their order of appearance =)

This was my fastest budder and my tallest ... i pollinated one little branch. This plant is more resinous than the others but I can see a definite reduction in bud growth... last week she did a stretch at the tip of the main cola, that is all filling in now and I see lots of new pistils so I'm hoping she'll fatten up some.



These last two were my smallest going into flower, now they are close to the biggest, they both have at least a month and more like five weeks to go.





Here is my best attempt at a trich shot with my phone... I know its not close up enough but... i see mostly clear, some cloudy trichs... this is the first plant, the one I think (hope) I have two weeks to go on.

This week I am learning the term "foxtailing". Seems there is a lot of confusion over what causes it and whether it is a good thing or not. As everything else has been fine, I do not suspect heat stress, nitrogen toxicity or anything else. Just genetics and a sign that she is ripening. So... foxtailing is when your buds, grow buds. As I mentioned in a previous post, the tops stretched on my Sour Ds, I was concerned, thought the light was too far away or something.... they got really really leafy too. After a couple of weeks the buds have doubled in size so I'm going with 'its a good thing'

This bud was already incredibly dense... there was just no where for the new growth to go, so its coming out the sides and top of the bud. I like it!
