Space for screen of green

I'll give you the worst answer: it depends. You can can fill a 4x4 space with 1-4 plants in a scrog. Size of containers / plants is key to the answer. If you are growing full sized photo period plants you may squeeze 10 in a 4x8 but it would be a little tight, IMO.

When I used to scrog in my 3x3 tent i did it with one plant in rDWC. The whole point of scrog is to use a screen and plant training to maximize the yield with a lower plant count. A true scrog with 10 plants would require a pretty massive space imo.

Right now I have ten at a week old and 6-8 inches and it’s gg#4 so If there’s a hermit or males they’re immediately getting culled

I thought the point was to have more plants in less space?

So smaller container =more plants?
A plant won’t flower for about a month even on 12 12 from seed. That’s why there is a minimum size for most screens. A smaller container can only help you so much. That’s why clones are beneficial because you can flower a toothpick sized cutting and it will actually flower.
If your selecting a female from 10 then screening them all will require a big tent and patience.

What you are describing is sea of green, not screen of green. SOG is many single cola plants in a small area flipped to flower when they are young. SCROG (screen of green) is less plants that are highly trained through topping, LST, and the use of a screen.

Ok so sea of green is what I’m talking about then I guess, but couldn’t I sort of do both? Crowd them a little bit but guide the branches so they’re all getting light?

I put 144 clones, SOG, under twelve 1000wt Gavitas.
That is 12 per light.
They are JAMMED in there, but I want a thick carpet of flowers.
One cola per square is my target.

I have real GG4 and can run 1 per square foot. I lollypop them when they are about 1.5 feet tall, keeping only the tops. They will finish between 4 and 5 feet tall and have great tops and side branching that can all be used to fill in spaces being it is very lanky with very stretchy nodes between sites.

If you are running gg4 seeds, I have no idea. It all depends on how they grow structurally. I only know the clone only plant.

I too run GG4 clones, and have for years.
They don't mind crowding, and they make a great SCROG plant.
I get upwards of 2 lbs per light, with 12 plants per light.

Agree with the super-stretch - gotta be ready for it.
Trick is to get the nugs to fill in.
When you see the cola's falling over ... you've hit it out of the park.

All Bullshit aside fellas, I have found that one revegged plant can easily fill a 4X4 space. When I do a Scrog it is always with revegged Girls. They have a huge pipeline for a main stalk and the remaining branches and leaves grow just like vines. Most SCROG's I have seen are done wrong. The point of the SCROG is to ensure that every Cola is the same size and in almost every grow that is supposed to be a scrog has a huge main Cola sticking through string. I use Hogwire and no the plant doesn't grow into the wire anymore than it would twine. Every Cola is always massive. Every Cola is the same size so if you see a so called scrog with a big bud sticking up out of some string then it's just simple inexperience or stupidity.

I used to use hogwire too, I like it a lot. I made a frame out of PVC and could just take it up and store it or put it down ... easy peasy.
I use the nylon stuff now, and honestly I hate it. But, my partner insists on using netting ... and he's as old and cranky as I am so if I insisted it would turn into an argument. Not worth it.
And, yea, even the pix's you see online of a SCROG looks a lot like a SOG with netting for support.
Whatever.

I sometimes use netting or some form of screen as an aid in LST and cola support when not running scrog, but scrog is a very specialized process. I just think there are always a lot of new growers popping up that don't understand all the different training methods. They'll figure it out eventually so i try to be helpful rather than makong fun of them

I ran a hlg600 led for my 1st sog run with 144 clones. No veg. From cloner to rockwool than I give them 5-7 days to to root and flip. Got 23 zips this run. And the hlg600 does need supplemental lighting for a 5x5. I'm sure 2lbs would be easy with 2 HLG100 sabers. No heat problems at all.
