SpicySativa’s Outdoor Organic - 2022

What’s up, guys?

I figured I might as well start a grow log for this year’s outdoor garden.

I’m running three different strains from Ace Seeds this year: two Golden Tiger in front (long flowering sativa), two Panama x Bangi Haze in the middle (shorter flowering sativa), and two Pakistani Chitral Kush in the back (indica). If you look closely, you might notice that one of the PCKs is doing its best impression of a trilium plant with it’s 3-leaf nodes.

I picked these strains both for their resistance to fungus and environmental stress, and for the quality of the finished product. Hopefully I can realize both of these benefits.

Within the next week or two I will transplant these into 45-gal smart pots with a “custom” soil blend, where they will live out the rest of their lives. These will be considerably bigger plants than last year. I will not be able to cover them, so I’m going to lean hard on the IPM, preventative maintenance, and stellar genetics to get me to the finish line.

Stay tuned for updates.

Cheers,

~SS

Looking forward to following your progress.

Mind sharing your inputs for your custom blend? Always like hearing about other people's mixes.

Wish you the best on your grow sir.

I didn’t write down a “recipe” this time - just kinda went by feel using what I had around the house. The base mix is of Ocean Forest and Mendo Mix. Then I added alfalfa meal, kelp meal, fish bone meal, some of that Recipe 420 “Recharge” stuff, and a couple different premixed organic fertilizers. All that got mixed up, wet down, and turned once a week (or so) for at least a month.

Each 45 gallon pot will be filled up half way with this “super” soil, then topped off with Ocean Forest.

I’ve always been curious about Golden Tiger and PCK from Ace for a long time. I’ll be along for the journey.

happy growing

And they’re off!

The little one-gal pots were drying out fast and the lower leaves were just starting to show a little yellow, so I went ahead and moved them to their 45-gallon “Forever Homes”. :)

Been a while, so here’s an update!

The indicas have been flowering for a couple/few weeks now, and the sativas are just starting to form flower clusters. One of the PCKs is developing dark purple buds. Neat…

The last pic is a bag seed plant that I started in our herb garden (I dubbed it “DillWeed”, because I planted it with our dill). It started flowering several weeks earlier than the others.

Beautiful plants. I ran Ace seeds Panama and Panama DC outdoors some years ago. The Panama were both fully dark purple all over like your PCK! Cool stuff

It’s been a while, so here’s an update.

They’re rolling along smoothly, for now. Hopefully this awkward California rainstorm won’t throw and wrenches in the spokes.

The PCKs are starting to form some chunky nuggets. PxBH are solidly in early/mid bloom. Meanwhile, the Golden Tigers are barely showing those early “poofs” of pistils. They are going to be LATE.458AF2F5-DFEC-40F4-8104-575C8EE09A78.jpeg1B538220-B7C7-4D5E-8129-8FE84BB9C7C6.jpeg4F1CBBE0-4F0A-456F-8F80-2F6C063C18A1.jpegEE420711-D55F-4835-81B7-FCC57299395C.jpegEE420711-D55F-4835-81B7-FCC57299395C.jpeg349A4C3C-D38F-4FAF-8980-5DCC53349018.jpeg0784856C-33AF-4445-BA53-6171E32B6B60.jpeg6937192C-8D37-4768-B197-3A9E456345AA.jpeg

Well… Things have not been going well here in the garden. Between that unseasonably early rainstorm that hit CA and several weeks of damp/foggy/drizzly weather, I’ve already lost my two PCKs and my two PxBH to the dreaded one-two punch of caterpillars and botrytus. Despite weekly sprays of BT and Doctor Zymes, the rot popped up on nearly every bud. I removed what I could, but that was a lost cause and I ended up scrapping them…

The golden tigers have not shown any botrytus yet, and I’m hopeful that their super loose and wispy bud structure will help them make it to the finish line. They’re nice and frosty, but still have a LONG ways to go.
