hi all is it true that if i put a layer of sand on my soil would it prevent spider mites?

I think you are thinking of fungus gnats.

this theres a few other soil pests it will prevent but those gnats are the main one.

i thought that but just been told by someone that works lol any idea how to prevent spider mite?

light neem solution makes for a good preventitive. Sesame oil is TOXIC to mites but completely safe for us/plants so you can also use a mild foliar spray as a preventitive. Just make sure when using oils you foliar spray with plain water occasionally to remove buildup.
