Spider Mites

THIS IS TRUE. A month ago I found mites in my grow. I treated once with mite killer (cant remember the name) and I read on here about the hot shot no pest so I bought two. ZERO mites...
Where are you putting the No Pest Strips? Can they be used in the flower room and another in the veg room or just outside the rooms at the intake? I am growing in plywood boxes I built that are in a spare bedroom. I am about to start my first grow and am trying to learn how to prevent them before hand. I was thinking of putting a hot shots no pest strip right outside the intake on each box... Thoughts?

Hey when the mites are dead what will they look like on the underside of the leaf...I dont have a 30x but they used to look more alive. Now they are white flakes. Are they dead?
The white flakes are the remains of them molting as they go through the various stages of their life; just empy husks. Dead mites still look like mites, just withered up. Not plump and glossy:spew:

I need some "New Tech" help, with an age old problem... Yeah,... the dreaded "Spider Mites". I too bought some sweet clones of Blueberry, and they were infested before bringing them into my growroom, and now, every freeking plant I have, is screwed up. I(back in the day) have used a mild solution of Ivory soap & water, and had FAIR results, but that was 30 years back. I sure that there is something better that I can use, to speed-up the process??? "Miti-cide"?
HELP ! ! ! !
Thanks
Don

home depot has a product called organocide that works wonders you cant use during the flower stage cause it is mostly edible fish oil but if you use it as a preventative during veg it will actually hardy up your plants way better than any other product out there and i know from experience that it will increase your yields if used properly used
I know it's an old thread, but i just bought some and the bottle states good up till the day before harvest.

okay here is my nickels worth...here in southwest colorado they are a real bitch..at least for me in the past...i plucked myself bald worrying about them....a few months ago my local hydro store was handing out free samples of this shit called SNS 217...i tried it and was amazed at the IMMEDIATE results...the active ingredient is plain old Rosemary Oil...so i decided to play mad scientist...bottom line is that i make my own now...for the initial kill dose i mix 15ml to 24oz RO water with about 3 drops Dawn dish detergent...then bi-weekly maintenance of 7.5ml to 32oz RO water...after complete control is achieved and no leaf stippling is visible you can experiment and knock the mix ratio down further....now im not saying there is not any good products out there..its just that they cost an arm and a leg...plus it smells pretty good also...

im trying to figure out how to cure my mite problem . and there seems to be many remedies that are iffy to work.. seems like the expensive chemicals are the only thing that works and those are basically expensive as hell. spider mites thrive in dry areas everyone..... i thought it was humid they liked as well... but they like hot weather and dry........when i had 2 bigger pots in my little grow cabinet the humidity was up to 65 sometimes...and the mites hatched fast.... I thought it was humidity but. if they hate humidity it must have been the high heat they loved.. and they didnt care about the humidity.. I will be trying eco soap.. but dulliting it with bottled water and spraying the plant with plane water about 6 hours later each treatment to wash the plant.. i have big suspicions this stuff burned the plast flowering plants i had.. some very crispy leaves...might have been the pepper garlic powder spray i used... kinda hard for me to tell..which spray damaged the plant but i really think it mighta been eco soap.. but ive heard of so many people uising it... so I recommend u guys rinse ur plants off with in less than a day to avoid burns.honestly leaf burns are not as unattractive as a spider mite web forming on ur top Colas i know is i cant make it to home depot tonight to get something and i gotta try the soap again cause mites will keep crusing and doing there thing fast..... last time i didnt spray the plants with plane water... i just left the eco soap on there.. this time im definetley rinsing... hopefully most the mites will die from the Eco soap... oh im leaving it out in the cold weather tonight too for about 6 hours during this treatment so im hoping if the Eco soap and water dosnt really help much.. then atleast the cold weather might stunt them... my problem isnt bad at all yet.... week 4 or so into blower buds are mostly hairs... but if she gets to bad i will just execute her and start over with plants that are treated with with neem to prevent.... come to think of it my very first plant from bag seed even had spider mites.. it got them on a small portion in the corner of of the plant i had lsd tied down... there was a web i didn't even know what that nastiness was...if spidermites are on just a couple of leaves at harvest no problem i figure.. but if there caked in a web around the buds lol ur crops through.... i had an oj master kush that was just covered in might webs.. man that was bad.., i chopped the top cola off threw it outside on the ground.. salvaged what buds werent destroyed.. mights will just work in certain areas untill the plant is really covered inch to inch. i saved some of the premature buds and made hash oil... if the nugs are covered in webs they look so unappetizing dry and rotten... i wouldnt even mash that filth into hash. I havent really gone out and got neem oil yet cause im on a cfl budget here but i will defientley get a decent brand of neem and prevent in the future...spider mites seem to be a problem that will never just go anyway they gotta be slapped around a bit... oh i have one more idea..toothbrush on the under side of leaves? give it a scrape and take some eggs and adults off. and wipe the toothbrush off on the ground outside or whatever.. or stick it in boiling water .. i did this with the toothbrush to my 2 heavily infested plants.. grape ape and oj kush... the ape was way more resistant to the mites.. the kush just got raped.. it was over for that thing.. sheds a tear... good luck everyone.. oh yea if i can find a box to put in outside out of my home lol.... i will hot shot bug bomb them. but im super weary of using that shit in my little apartment.

I dun'no what a jumping spider is (sounds scray cos I don't like spiders) but in gardening spiders tend to control unwanted pests.

-10 Wow ... I would be jumping around also.... A jumping spider should be good for your grow... A real jumping spider... I have never heard of a jumping spider mite, but if there is now! , keep yo' ass away form Colorado please...lol Spider mites will get on something and enter a grow room, outside temps do not matter... They will hatch and take over you enclosed environment quickly. read up on them.. I had them at first but took several actions and now they are gone ... A continued pest management plan is essential for continued eradication. When i first started my grow I always heard its not if , but when.. I thought Bullshit,, i will keep clean yadd-yadda... well.. I was completely underestimating the little bastards... So now I have educated myself and have a plan of action I follow... I do not like bugs crawling on me or near me.. Happy hunting.. Frog

Great info!!!

Hope you dont mind some questions so this great info can be put to use:

you are using rosemary essential oil then?

Do you ever get leaf burn at those concentrations?

Have you ever sprayed with rosemary oil and burned sulfur (any leaf burnage?) or found problems after other foliar sprays and then rosemary?

Have you ever sprayed with rosemary oil and experienced temps over 90 degrees - if so any leaf burn?

I assume you spray with lights off? You go for super spray coverage, light coverage or what?

How far down do you knock the mix and find consistent maintenance?

Do you just keep spraying weekly or biweekly for continued maintenance forever?

Thanks for the info!!!

hey i have had 2 major infestations the best thing i found was of course regular deem doses plus konk 418 aresal spray every 2-3 days./ this spray worked great and is not that expensive anyone else tried this spray???????

Im in the 7th week of flowering found them on some plants. they are not red or rusty just white with tiny webs can only see under magnifying glass. I thought it was powdery mildew at first. just white dots on some leaves then webs came. HELP what do I do without messing up my beautiful buds??? vacuum them then what?

I deployed predator mites in my crop a week ago. To keep the humidity up for them I'm misting heavily twice a day. So far, I can say that my problem (minor) is not getting worse. These guys take 4 weeks to get control, so I'm being patient. My plants are currently in day 12 of flowering, so I don't have to worry about bud rot from the misting yet. In veg I use insecticidal soap every 5 days or so. On the whole, I find it's just easier to bud in winter when the bugs aren't around!:-? Plus, I do a lot of outdoor gardening this time of year, and it's impossible for me to keep them completely out. I don't wear dirty gardening shoes in my grow room and try to keep dust to a minimum (Spider mites like dusty environments and, yes, hot and DRY conditions.)
Where did you get these predator mites? I am an entomology kid and am highly interested.
Also recently I made a mixture of highly diluted 100% eth. alcohol, chili powder, and dish soap with water in a spray bottle. The adults definitely do not like this shit, but the fucking EGGSSS......

Got a mite problem? Want blissful revenge on those fuckers for messin with your grow?:cuss:

Try my "all natural" miticide recipe called "Habanero Hellfire." :fire: Those SOB's will regret messing with your grow after being drenched with this burning concoction. They will scream, pop, and die in agony :fire:and it does not affect your plants.

1/2 pound of habanero peppers (do not remove seeds, only the stems)
6 cloves of garlic
1 teaspoon of ground cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 tablespoon of italian seasoning
2 tablespoons of liquid soap (i.e. dishwasher liquid is cool)

boil 2 liters of water with the cinnamon, cloves, and italian seasoning.

while the water is boiling, in a blender blend the habaneros and garlic with 2 cups of water. Blend to a liquid smooth consistency. then pour into the boiling water.

Boil for about 10 minutes while mixing occasionally, then add the liquid detergent.

let it cool down to room temperature, then strain VERY WELL (if not strained very well, habanero bits will clog in your sprayer and ruin it).

Spray your plants until they are drenched from top to bottom. Let the liquid evaporate by itself (do not place plants in direct light while wet).

After an hour, spray your plants with clean water while slowly and carefully rubbing off the habanero with your fingers. Tiny habanero bits will probably remain after cleaning, but that's ok. The spray DOES NOT affect the plants. After two days, spray down with water again. Your plants will smell like habanero for weeks. DO NOT SPRAY ON BUDS UNLESS YOU LIKE SPICY BUDS.

Repeat the process in 1 week to ensure all those bastards are completely dead. Most likely only one application will eliminate those bastards, but try two or three times depending on the gravity of the infestation. You will not be disappointed.

PRECAUTION: WEAR GLOVES, EYE PROTECTION, AND A MASK. I Learned the hard way. :wall:Constant exposure of spray made me light headed with some dizzyness, so I don't know how it might effect people who are sensitive to strong peppers. You do not want this in your eye, lips or mouth. Possible blindness will occur if sprayed in eyes. You will have to wash your hands constantly for several days to remove the smell and spice from hands if gloves are not worn. By all means, go slow and steady and be cautious. Peace.;-)

This works well in your garden too, spray on your vegetables to prevent bugs, rodents, and even squirrels from eating your stuff, although spray lightly every week and only wash before eating. Ant Problem? This stuff kills them in 10 seconds or less, but drench them well.

I have a feeling most of you will not approve of my spider mite killer.... I will never ever use it on flowering plants.

Avid. It is nuclear poison. Highly concentrated little bottle. I use 5 drops in a gallon sprayer. If I see any sign of spider mites I use that and and I don't see them again.

I had a spider might infestation 8-9 years ago and couldn't get rid of them, tried lady bugs, neem oil, a mix with spicy crap in it, I finally said F it... I cropped what I had, cleared the room, sprayed it down with strong bleach water, spayed everything several times over the course of two weeks. I kept 1 mother isolated and sprayed that avid on it a couple times a week for 2-3 weeks. I've never had a problem since. A friend gave me a small plant that had some, I sprayed it real good, gone. Never saw them again. He is always asking to borrow my bottle. Since it only takes a few drips per gallon I just mix him up a batch... The stuff was $190. I bought it 8-9 years ago and still have 3/4 a bottle left. It is a tiny bottle.

Highly toxic, wear a mask gloves goggles, don't get on skin. I've used it on the floor and buckets and light dusting on the dirt when growing at a friends that was always battling spied mites.. Mine stayed mite free.

It's funny, I used to swear Fing spider mites, I hate those Fing things, my buddy (who didn't grow at the time) would laugh... Now he always has em'. Because he is lazy, let's leaves rot on the floor, doesn't bleach water his rooms between cycles, and doesn't seem to be able to spot them until he has a major infestation. I spot it pretty quick. You'll see little yellow dots on the lower leaves. Turn the leaf over, look and focus, you will see little specks, look long enough and you will notice them moving. I keep a magnifying glass near by. If you act early, spray the underside of the leaves and dust the dirt and bucket, and the floor they will die....No it's not organic, should be a last resort like a nuclear bomb should be. :)

Do not ever use it when flowering.

change into a clean sweat suit or something if you've been outside before going into your grow room. I wear a wind breaker style track suit, it allows me to step through my plants without them clinging to me. If you pull air in from outside, pull through a filter. Sweep and spray your grow room down with beach water each time you empty it, you can spray the floor between the buckets during a cycle too. Might just kill one that was crawling it's way to a plant on the floor.

Hot Shot no-pest strips work the best out of anything I've seen... And if you're worried about the chemicals I'll repost something I said earlier:

I found a good thread on a different website discussing the toxicity etc of Dichlorvos.

You can find it here. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=122627. Read through it and make a decision for yourself.

I've decided it is safe to use for various reasons, the main points being: It has a half life of 2 days meaning 50% is gone in 2 days, 75% in 4 days etc etc. Save to use 2 weeks before harvest imo. And even then, it is released as a gas and does not precipitate or accumulate. The USDA has shown that there is no evidence of accumulation in plants, fish, or animals. Also, they have shown there are no noticeable health effects after 2 years of low dose exposure (and we're talking the spray version). Also, this stuff is used in more concentrated forms in warehouse and where food is involved, is monitored by the USDA and FDA. We eat the stuff every day as it is.

If used in flower it is suggested to cut ventilation during dark cycle and keep the strip in there. When lights and vents come on you can take it out and put in a zip lock bag for the next night. (The gas does nothing if the room is vented anyway)

I would even say it is safe to use up to harvest, but I have 4 weeks to harvest and only need to use it for a week so I definately feel safe.

Maintenance is key to keeping these fuckers at bay. If you use some Bronner's soap ( about a tsp per gallon of water) mixed with some organic substances such as Neem oil, then you can make them almost disappear. I had them riddle my crop and I thought for sure it was the end. I started a routine of spraying them every day with a pump pressure sprayer with the mix listed above, and they were gone, so I thought. I noticed the spots appearing again a few weeks later. So how to get rid of them completely is beyond me, but I do know that if you are consistant with the spray then you will see almost no sign of them and your crop will flourish. Like I said, maintenance is key. I am still experimenting but after 2 years of battle, I am winning but the war continues. Good Luck.

Spider Mites suck and I lost the battle but winning the war. I trusted someone with clones who said they were bug free and weren't. My entire crop got infested real bad and I do grow indoors. Everything went into the trash except the lights and fans which I steam cleaned. I vacuumed and steamed the grow rooms, set 5 bombs off in each and locked them up for a month. Went to the hydro store, all new pots, soil, etc and started from seeds. This was 2 years agi, I have had great crops since, and NO BUGS! I have 4 very healthy mom's in a separate room where I veg. 2 white berry and 2 train wreck and that's all I'll grow because I think they're the best to grow, they grow fast, no strings needed and the buzz is awesome.
