Square Foot Gardening Soil Mix Question

I have a growing medium question. Would the square foot gardening soil mixture work well to grow MJ? The soils consist of three parts.

One part peer moss.
One part vermiculite.
One part compost. - The compost cosist of Cotton Burr Blend, mushroom compost, and cow manure.

Would this offer a good amount of nutrients for a MJ grow?

It may very well a good mix. I'm not familiar with Cotton Burr Blend, I like a little bone meal since MJ has a long fruit time.

The cotton burr blend is essentially the left over reminisce of the cotton plant post harvest. It contains the husk, some stem and shaft.

That should give you a little structure for the soil sounds good. Theres no perfect soil for everyone. Most of us (me included) tend to over do it with addatives. Its a good base to work from you can add a nice tea if need and that will help you to improve your soil for next time.

I'm familiar with that mix and absolutely you can grow great cannabis with it. I have a square foot garden myself and I've grown indicas and sativias right along side sugar snap peas, lettuce, straw berries, broccoli and carrots. I've been doing it this way for a few years now.

Before I created my first raised bed, I used a garden fork to flipped the land then dug 6" and removed all the big rocks. I put down weed barrier fabric then built a 4x4 bed out of untreated lumber. In order to save a few dollars I skipped the vermiculite and only used Perlite. Tip: When you start pouring & mixing the perlite, it gets really dusty, so wear a face mask. For compost I used Kelloggs Patio Plus and super soil. For my fertilizer, I've gotten the best results with Worm Castings, Alaska Fish Fertilizer, and Kelloggs General Purpose Fertilizer.

I tried FoxFarm, Advanced Nutrients, and a few other brands, but SFG using regular organic products that I find at Home Depot has so far worked the best for me.

Hello Vindicated!

Thanks for sharing your past success with Mel's Mix, it's reassuring to her how well it works, the mix sure does feel great in your hands. My girlfriend and I just installed our first SFG Sunday with the mixture I listed above, 1/3 Compost (Cotton Burr, Cow Manure, Mushroom Compost )- 1/3 Peet moss - 1/3 Vermiculite.

Vindicated I have a few questions for you.

How often did you find yourself having to fertilize after getting everything planted?
How many square feet did your cannabis use by the time in matured?

I can't find my more recent grows, but both these plants only had one square. The taller plant was growing next to a dozen carrots and snow peas. I had just pulled everything a week before taking these pictures. The smaller thicker indica plant was grown next to a small strawberry bush and few lettuce heads. I feed them twice a with the kellogg general purpose fertilizer and a couple of times with alaska fish emulsions. I didn't follow a strict guideline or even water them all the time like I should have. I'm betting the smaller indica plant would have been bigger had it not got root bound from being veg in a 6" container.

This year I want to start a new raised bed, but instead of building it like I did before, I want to get the Big Bag Bed from Smart Pots. It's only $40.
