SSH1 x SSH2 - BeanHo - Heartlandhank grow

Here is a grow of SSH1 x SSH2, from BeanHo, over at Hempdepot. Unfortunately, SSH1 x SSH2 packs are not currently available. But crosses with the SSH 2 (which this plant leans) are available.

This plant was selected from a pack a little while back. This plant strongly leans towards BeanHo's SSH2 (I believe). The "classic" 9 wk SSH. BeanHo's SSH 1 is a super Hazy 12 wk SSH. I kept one leaning that way too. This grow will focus on the SSH 2 leaning plant.

The SSH cuts were transplanted into 5 gallon grow bags of House and Garden Coco. Watered in with Dyna Gro 9-3-6, cal mag +. H&G Root Excel and rootballs dusted with Great White.
Here is a shot of the tent. It is a 9x4 tent with 1800 watts (3 600hps). Coco drain to waste setup. Nothing too fancy.

The plants are 4 per 600 hps. With 42 inch tomato cages, modified to be 6 inches shorter.

Here she is... The 9 wk SSH clone, at day 1 of 12/12.

Nick, sweet. I remember you saying you were an SSH fan.

Izoc, here it is. I'll update Saturday or Sunday, weekly. Unless something interesting happens.

Here we are at the beginning of wk2. The plants will be watered for the first time since transplant today. I will water/feed them with Dyna-Gro GROW 7-9-5 and Root Excel.

The SSH plants have more than doubled in size in just 1 week. These plants really stretch. Most likely, the update next week will include at little bit of LST.
This plant also has pretty wide node spacing... the tomato cages really help with getting branches where they need to be, to get a good yield.

Here are some shots of the same plant pictured in the first post...

This grow has 6 SSH plants and 6 other plants. Here are some shots of the SSH plants throughout the tent.

Today I will go through and pick out just a small amount of the smallest growth on the lower inside part of the plants... I leave the fan leaves attached to that growth, but I like to keep the inside of the plants clear of growth... I use pretty raw air from outdoors and humidity can be all over the place. My plants are selected for PM resistance, but still, i am always trying to prevent in ways that do not include bringing in more climate control.

Here is a before and after to show the removal of a little inside growth.

I'll update again next weekend.

Izoc,
Thanks man. Give BeanHo a try. I was pleased. I keep 7 or 8 mothers at a time and currently 2 are from Beanho. You can't beat his prices either.

Kingramo,
Yeah man. SSH is great smoke... quite a few folks I know call this their fave, and it's not the sativa fans like you would think. It has a smooth chill sativa high to it. Clear, clean and relaxing. Beautiful flowers too. I love this 9 week SSH.

Week 3

Here we are at Day 15 of flower (week 3)

Everything is looking good. Right now the SSH are the healthiest plants in the garden.

I usually do a heavy LST early in flower, if not day 1. I decided to just let these ones grow this time. I tucked the main growth behind the top rim of the tomato cage just to keep them away from the bulb. It should be cool to see how this plant does like this. I have never grown it without a heavy LST. I suspect my yield will be a little less, but that's ok. I just grow for myself and family and we are still sitting nice with the skunk cross harvest 4 weeks ago.

Beginning of week 6..

These plants are getting the poor treatment test... I've been super busy and had to leave town for 5 days. I could not get anyone lined up to water the plants so I just cut the llights for 5 days. I had some fungus gnats upon return to the garden. The plants turned a light/pale green color.. but after a week they darkened up.

These SSH clones do not branch so well. I use tomato cages and sturdy twists to try and fill the canopy... but this go round I was short on time and did not get it just right. Still, the buds are looking pretty. I can't wait to have this 9 wk SSH to smoke on again... it's been almost 1 year since I have had a jar of it around. Can't wait...

These plants have been pretty consistent in yielding 12 oz per light. I'm hoping to beat that highest yield with the garden coming up in about 6 weeks... 8 SSH plants under 1200 watts.

A little note here on my nutrients...
Last week I stopped using Dyna Gro and started using House and Garden Coco A and B and Cal Mag+.

Kingramo, thanks man.. It's been a while since I have flowered some cuts from this SSH plant. I've been checking on them like mad lately too... haha. This plant is the oldest of all of my mothers. I got so wrapped up in the search for new mothers that I sort of forgot about her.

I'm sure Mr Nice offers a very nice product... But... these clones come from a plant selected out of a pack of Beanho SSh1xSSH2. If I remember correctly I got 20 seeds for $30US.
For a lower cost option.. check out Beanho at Hempdepot... He has some SSH crosses for super cheap. currently 10 seeds for 25. 20 for 40.
This 9 week plant strongly leans to his SSH2 (I believe). It is a great plant.

If you look at his list of seeds... he has SSH, SSH1, SSH2, SSH3. SSH1 is a long flowering type. SSH 3 is an indica leaning plant. SSH2 is what I have here. I THINK that what he lists as SSH is really SSH2. I bet an email to Hempdepot would clear that up for you.
So, if you are interested in something like I have here... I would check out these..

Afghan Haze 2 x SSH
Afghan Haze 3 x SSH
SSH x S Tooth
SSH x PCKush

I would love to see what Afghan Haze 3 x SSH looks like.

NOTE: don't take my words for absolute truth on beanho genetics... as far as what SSH leans towards what... i could be off on some of those.

Late week 7 / Early week 8

This grow is the first SSH 9wk grow that I have done without heavy LST early in flower. I am liking the results. Fewer bud sites but much larger buds. Nice and even maturing buds from the lowest bud sites to the tops. I expect this yield to be my best with this specific plant to date. I am hoping for 22oz+ from 6 plants at 4 plants per light... so, 6 plants under 900 watts hps. 3.6 oz per plant... i think i will get it.

chunky as hell!
Yeah. It's chunkier than I have ever had this plant before. Dropping the LST (making for fewer bud sites) really made these plants less of a mess. Trimming these is going to be super easy compared to past grows of this plant.

Kingramo,
Me too, Kingramo... me too. I haven't smoked on these buds in quite some time. I remember the last time I took a break from them... that first pull from the bong was like... "aaaahhh", "why did I stop growing this?".
I suspect this plant is going to get put to work Fall 2013-Summer 2014. I'm slowing down on "the hunt" for genetics, and I'm ready to really enjoy all of my hard work over the last several years.

So far, I put this plant at the top of what I have found over 150+ seeds, 75+ females (all back stocked and tested), 4 years of searching. Balancing yield, trouble resistance, effect, smell, taste, bag appeal, and most importantly Versatility... as far as being a loved bag of buds by the couch lock stoner just as much as the sativa lover. I would stop short of saying that it will please that guy who exclusively likes his 12wk+ hazes, but between crops, it would definitely be something he would enjoy over the average smoke available in the market.

A Green Crack S1 plant is in the run for that title... but this SSH takes it, for sure.

Just a quick update with a few shots

Early week 8...

I suspect I will cut these plants down in 10 days. 14 max.. I will work on some thorough photography for the pre chop update...
