Standardizing Edibles

I see a lot of recipes for mixing oils, butters, tinctures into them and dividing the end product into a particular number of servings to get an estimated dose.

My question is specifically for gummies where individual molds are used.

I know what my tincture dosage is and I want to incorporate that exact dosage per gummy. Instead of infusing the tincture into the whole batch of gelatin before pouring it into the molds, is there a way to inject the tincture into each gummy mold to standardize the potency?

For those who don’t know, non-standardized products do not contain the same amount of active ingredients as others. For example a brownie from a whole batch may have more or less strength depending on the mix and settling. In my opinion, that makes for a waste.

Personally I've never had that problem when making gummies, they all seem to be about the same. You just have to really mix it in. otherwise, I suppose you could squirt half a bear, do a drop of tincture, and fill the rest of the bear. I do not think it would set correctly though.

Out of curiosity, why do you think it would not set properly?

I was thinking the tincture itself would be encapsulated in the gelatin? the tincture I’d be using would be a grain alcohol solution.

because its not going to emulsify together if you dont mix it thoroughly. unless your making 2 inch tall bears, theres no room to mix in a standard bear mold. the alcohol would just eat away at the sugar and you, at best, would have some deformed looking bears with a soggy middle, and they would leak and spread themselves among the other bears, pretty much rendering your doses useless.

the best way is to stir for like 10 minutes and really get it mixed in well. or try your method, and please post results.

also, going back to your original point, when you have a brownie, are you able to pinpoint "extra eggy" bites or "no salt" bites? if so, then your baker is absolute garbage. But as I suspect, no you are not. same thing with your tinture, it will mix in really well and it will be well dispersed in your mix

I think the gelatin mix will also be problematic doing this as well.gelatin sets up so quick,it could be a hardened mass by the time he gets to the end filling them this way.even with two ppl, sounds time consuming.

nah, I've never had it set up THAT fast. I generally have to let it sit for a couple minutes just to harden a bit before I move them into the freezer. However, I have tend to use less gelatin than most others I've seen so my recipe may be a little different.

I'm talking getting it in the pipette.i can bang out 150 gummies(piped into molds) in 5 minutes or so,and it's a race(for me)to get them piped before the mixture gets too hard to draw into the pipette.but yeah, maybe I use more gelatin then you.

are you just using the very basic jello/geletin/water recipe? also, suck it all up into a big syringe at once, and ditch the pipette. you waste too much time reloading it. I got a few big ones on amazon super cheap.

thanks for the info!

I think standardizing products is important in true medications and formulations which is why I was asking.

I’m coming from a world of other ethnobotanicals and am relatively new to cannabis creations

I’m trying to find a way to minimize the guesstimates. I want my meds to be the same every time as with any other prescription. Gummies may not be the way to go, but they are the tastiest IMO.
