Start with Distilled then change to RO, is that OK?

Hey guys,

I'm doing a DWC and I am buying clones on Saturday. The RO filter I ordered doesn't get here until the following Wednesday.

Is it going to be ok for me to start the plants in Distilled water, and change out to RO when the filter arrives?

Also when I change to RO should I start over, or just mix it with the left over distilled?

I did the exact same thing. To be honest my plants like distilled water better then the R/O. I have been using the R/O but I add a little Cal-Mag to it because i've heard the R/O process strips the water of Cal and Mag. No problems so far. But I have still thrown in 2-4 gallons of distilled water in my carriage when grocery shopping. All I do to that is add my nutes and PH up it just a frogs hair, and i'm perfect. Sometimes i'll mix in a couple gallons with R/O water because it takes so damn long to make the R/O lol.

Both are a waste of money If you can drink the water you can grow in it !! save your money and buy great clones.

I don't mind the money so much. However, hauling gallons of distilled water up my 30 steps (that freeze in winter) sounds stupid. Especially because I have a 30gal rez.

My problem with RO, that I learned after I ordered the filter, is for every gal or RO water you dump 3 gal down the drain. I have a serious problem wasting all that water.

I am going all out on my first grow to hopefully harvest and pay for the setup. Next grow, when the pressure is off, I'm going to experiment, including using my tap water.

R/O is one of the best investments you can make, especially if your tap is hard. Better think twice about misting with tap, or filling your humidifier up from the faucet. Brita and Pur can't save you. Only R/O will do.
