No matter how you grow soil or hydro the area needs to be kept clean or you will suffer from bugs.. Just sayin...
 
i know the area needs to be clean but doesn't hydro run a risk of flooding. if so that's a risk i can't take in a dorm
 
In my personal opinion soil is much much messier than hydro. My waterfarm is the cleanest system I've ever used to grow.
