Starting my first run at some dank TGA bud

Background: Lifelong lover and admirer of dank herb grown impatient and tired of depending on others (friends, foes, lovers and thieves) to obtain the precious bud. Now I will attempt the great dream, some dank of my own.

Problem: I decided years ago that if I ever where to put seeds in the ground, Subcool’s genetics where the way to go, and I am still a true believer of that. But the problem is that the genetic pool available for purchase is too good! I can’t decide on what to get…

I want 1 sativa dominant plant in terms of the finished product (the smoke and high of the plant) but I don’t want it to stretch too much in hight. I want this plant to have an energetic, inspiring and visual high.

I want 1 Indica dominant plant with a more indica/body high.

I have been looking at the Voretex as my Sativa choice. Would this be a good choice for the above set up? Could this strain be recommended as a “first” strain to grow? I have been looking at Pandoras Box as an alternative to the Voretex, would that be a better strain to grow you think?

I have been looking at The Flav as my Indica choice. Mainly due to that I really would love to try some of that legendary Romulan and what can go wrong if you have a little bit of the Space Queen genes in there?? Is this a hard strain to grow or do you think a new grower could manage? I have been looking at The Void as an alternative for this. Would the void be an easier strain to grow? How similar are The Void and Voretex (both having the Apollo heritage)?

Sorry for the many questions and a big thanks to TGA and Subcool for the truly amazing genetics.

Hey Stockton!

I've grown Jack The Ripper, Jillybean and Pandora's Box a few times, Jack is my favorite of all strains. The most potent, most enjoyable high. Jillybean has an incredible taste but not the potency or high of Jack. Pandora's Box is a potent high, between Jack and Jilly. Very fast flowering - almost as fast as Flo (8-9 weeks). Not a lot of taste with my pheno.

.

3 Jillybeans CCOB at 4 weeks. (5 gallon buckets) They already smell of Dreamcicle. I veg my plants vertical to 22", topped once, and there usually ends up 46"-48" of stem grown in 6"-12" of height above the bucket rim. I did a Kali Mist in 4" just to see how short I could grow a sativa dominant. If I double top I get 60"+ of stem but it's a lot more work and time training a double topped plant. A single topped plant can sometimes be trained in a day, a week at most.

Jillybean

I've got Agent Orange, Querkle and The Flav beans to run. They all get good reviews, I want to run them all eventually. Dairy Queen, Vortex and the Void especially. Space Queen.

Jack The Ripper

I've got some Spectrum Of Effect reports linked below.

Hobbes: Thanks for your input, really enjoyed your CCOB, think I read the whole thread you have somewhere here. Looks like some fine plants you have there. Like I said I have a big problem picking out just 2 strains, JTR is a serious contender, though what got me into the Voretex track is that I fell in love 5-6 years back, in a sweet and truly amazing girl we called Cindy (C99). And doing my research for my 2 strain choices I stumbled across the comment “A very Cindy like plant with an bizarre twist”, that just hooked my attention straight off. What really amazed me with C99 – besides the awesome effects of smoking the bud – was the way it grew. Man, that weed really did want to grow no matter what conditions or treatment it got, just marched on. Well, it may not yield like some other crazy strains but it is a sativa trippy high weed with fruity smell and taste, potent as hell and it just won’t be nothing other than your number one in the garden (finishing first both in the grow room and in the cured jars). Well, I know that the Voretex is not pure C99, though the genetics of the fantastic girl is present on both parents sides (A13 being Genius X P75 and Space Queen being Romulan x Cinderella 99). But for sure, I will have a real hard time to decide between the sativa choices for the garden. Right now Voretex is the first choice, but the runner ups are not far behind (PB and JTR).

1gne: I have been obsessed with Subcool’s genetics for some time now, I was really close to getting some seeds a few years ago when the Danny Boy and Danielle strains where available at cannaseur and I really regret not getting a pack of Danielle. I have checked out the Crazytrain strain. I am tempted though I really would like to try the Romulan BX (The Flav) as I have never even smoked a sample of Romulan but heard so much about her. I know that the prices for seeds are relatively high though, if you get 1 or more keepers out of a pack, the 90 bucks (or the 60-70 £ it deems in UK) is really money well spent.

I really have to make up my mind now, I’ve been debating on what to get for the past 3 weeks now..

Stocton if I could suggest an alternative, and really send your mind into Kramer land:

- I usually germ regular seeds in sets of 3, enough seedlings to have a good chance of getting a female but only a few plants so I can run several strains.

- TGA now offers single seeds at Pick n Mix for $9.20 usd instead of $92 for 10.

- Instead of buying 2 strains (20 seeds) for $184 buy 7 strains (3 seeds per strain x 7 strains = 21 seeds) for $189.

- If you miss a female on one strain, or don't get the pheno you want on another, order 3 more seeds next time you get more strains.

- You have the same chance of getting the same number of females with 21 seeds (7 strains) as with 20 seeds (2 strains). No risk.

It's getting to be the way to order ww. There's not a lot of sense in having 7 seeds per strain sitting in a lock box, may as well run some other stains.

I'll bet most of Attitudes orders are going this way, a lot of demand for it.

Hobbes: Well, I have been looking at the Pick n mix too but I am going to use a hydro set up and I am doing it for the first time, that is why I am preparing 2 strains, one for the first go and one for the next one, as I think I will benefit from just having to satisfy one strains particular needs and specifics for nutrients and such. But otherwise pick n mix alternative is tempting

If you're new it's definitely a good idea to stick with just one or two strains at a time, but you could always do what Hobbes is saying and just not start all 7 strains at once. Get all the strains, and just start 1 at a time. His point was you're getting way more Subcool bang for the buck by pick n mixing rather than spending the same $$ and only getting 2 strains.

Get your Subcool on bro! I've got Vortex and Qleaner going right now with some JillyBean waiting in the wings. You won't be disappointed with whatever you choose!

Well, just looked around the attitude site and found that they (too) have the choice of pick n mix. I thought that the pick n mix alternative was only available through a specific seed bank (the one linked from Sub’s web page). But I saw the pick n mix option from The Attitude as well. Sweet, and they only charge £5.99.

In that case maybe I will try to narrow it down to 2 strains this order and get back in the spring for more… any one of you guys used Hemp Depot? Is their prices really $75 per every 10 pack of TGA beans?

I just saw the price differences on 10-packs and for me the difference seem to be noticeable, though the pick n mix option was not available at HD and along with better payment and shipping offers I think I will attitude. Maybe it is now high time for me to stop talking about it and start ordering some beans.

Damn!! Just about to place my order, followed Hobbes idea and thought I would get like 4 different strains, though I really (really really) wanted to base the order with some fine Voretex beans. But when I placed them in my chart I got the message "you can not order above our stock" or something like that... damn, damn, damn, just sent a mail to attitude trying to get an estimate on how soon they will have more Voretex for the pick n mix selection... they are still available in 10-packs though... might just have to go back to my original plan and buy 10 voretex and then maybe pick n mix a few others (The Flav, The Void and Pandoras Box). Well, the drama is on!
